A fall noted on facebook. A comment I saw.

Just call it misclips, shoddy knots, and stupid aider tricks.

Oh and straps/buckles/platforms/sticks breaking which absolutely does happen.
if you are tethrd in when a buckle, strap or platform breaks it may ruin a perfectly clean pair of your underwear but ya should be fine...I believe this was about tether rope or equipment failure...do these ropes and biners ever really break?...how about amsteel saddle bridges?...do they ever break?...how many documented cases of rope or biner breakage are there? when used correctly of course...stay safe, be alert...lerts dont get hurt!

Two sections. One for human error. The other for equipment failure.

I didn’t realize how wrong I was using daisy chains for my hawk helium’s 20” two steps until I watched the guys video posted around page 2 of this thread. Add that to human error.

also, the guys sellingdaisy chains and what not should have promotedvideos like that since they’re selling marketing it. I’m not saying sue them as they are cottage shops I support, but that daisy chain attachment and kick out issues is severe. Imagine if you punctured severe your femoral artery.

I am trying to do DRT as much as possible now, sounds crazy but I swear when all gear is appropriate and tied correctly is safer than climbing sticks any day.

I also leave hunter safety systems tether lines for climbing with sticks. I can be tethered from the ground up.

When you use daisy chains correctly they are safe. Don’t blame the manufacturer.

I caution those who think going to srt or drt is the cure to all of their problems. It’s much more likely for someone who’s used to climbing sticks to be able to inspect their gear and climb safely than if that person switched to a brand new climbing system with 10x more components using someone on the internets guide.

Something that I haven’t abandoned yet is Lone Wolf style sticks (I single stick one chopped short with an aider) with rotating standoffs, and LW buckle straps... it’s hard to get tighter than a buckle strap.

I was a zip line guide and rock climbing instructor so the DRT was a little more familiar to me than may be for most but I agree with what you’re saying. I don’t openly recommend drt to my friends cause there’s a huge risk and requires the same scrutiny over your gear as well.

I don't know if anyone watches but there's a channel on YouTube called "hownot HighLine" or something along that which actually goes thru and breaks biners and rope for actual break rate vs advertised. It helped me alot on choosing gear. This accident had to be user error...

I would concur...even with my limited knowledge and experience...Like jared said...it would likely make huge news in the climbing world if it were faulty equipment

That's a fun channel and was the inspiration for my break testing machine which is becoming a reality in the very near future. Can't wait to break stuff!

The trucker's hitch method with daisy chains gets tighter for me because it has 3X leverage (buckles have 2X) and amsteel stretches less than nylon webbing under load. I was playing with the daisy chain with that method on a predator platform last night, and it gets so tight it is crazy (you can pluck the amsteel like a guitar string).

That’s a new one to me will check it out!

This can be adapted for platforms and steps as well. I can't remember if he does it, but on a Predator, if you tuck the tag end behind the dedicated button loop rope, then it is locked in place very well as you cam over. On a stick, I'd probably do that and then wrap/tie it one other spot. This is my steps method right now with some mods.
