A Few Tips From An Old Fart

Honestly, once you get used to it, it is super refreshing. Ever noticed how if you are at the beach all day swimming that it really clears your sinuses? It's like that (you use salt water)...I guess a better comparison is similar to cleaning eyes out with saline solution....but inside your head. Maybe I need a head enema more than some.....

I knew of the amoeba risk (said bacteria before, I was confused....maybe the amoeba got me) and so I always used distilled water and washed the thing in a dishwasher.
This is another case of people criticizing something they have never tried. I don't know why this is such a prevalent thing in our society today. If I haven't tried something, I am FAR from an expert on the subject and usually stand aside.

The human body is a miracle.

People also squirt liquid up they butt....

Nasal irrigation is a thing, a good thing. I usually get severe sinus infections. Last time I asked the doc how to avoid them. I was told to do a nasal irrigation (neti pot, etc. ...) once a week.

Guess what, over three years of weekly nasal irrigation and no sinus infections at all for me. I must stress that one should use only distilled water (tap water is no bueno).

And during allergy season (March through October), I’ll do it more frequently as needed.

It is like a power wash to get the boogies and other cruft out of one’s nasal cavity.

Never thought I’d mention nasal irrigation and boogies on a hunting forum, but yet here I am.

You get good at it too, a strange skill to pick up. I have techniques to shake the water out of my sinuses.

Yes. I have had to do that a few times for medical procedures to get all the crap out of there. You still have all that welding crap in your head?
Try nasal irrigation. If you are a welder I think you'll like it.

This makes a big difference in the wind.
What’s the verdict on sewing in insulation?

I don’t mind a big pack for heavy clothing. When it’s -15c you NEED to stay warm. I’m a gun hunter, so I don’t have to draw a bow, but I’ve been so cold I could hold my rifle steady. I’ve been so cold I’ve had trouble climbing down.
A pack like mentioned above is made of material. If I fill it with warm clothes it’s really not much bigger than the warm clothes.
I’ll drop a large orange bag in the bottom. If I’m worried about scent that day I’ll put the pack in the garbage bag and leave it on the ground.

I used that coat while the weather was above 30F and windy. It is only a fleece shell. It does make it warmer by a bit and blocks the wind 100% where it is applied. No perspiration issues since there is plenty of uninsulated area. It is still there and I have no intention of removing it. In warmer weather I would wear no coat or a light shell.
