A year without buying hunting gear?

You might be able to give a downed tree a haircut and shave with that folding saw!
My dad and I cut about an 18" pine tree the truck got stuck on one day. Took longer than I ever want to think about, but it beat spending the night.

Only other option is a chainsaw. For something I'll likely need never or maybe once or twice for that purpose, I'm cool with knowing it won't be pretty, but it'll happen.

I'm sure many of you know about marital negotiations and having to make the case to the wife about getting new toys. As soon as I got into saddle hunting and gear that my life depended on, I decided I'd need to get new gear every year, because of safety of course. The same argument worked for getting a new table saw with all the latest safety features.

Seriously though, while I usually use my gear until it is worn to hell and then some, getting new saddle hunting gear regularly is probably just smart.

I personally find the phrase “that old thing...I have had that for years” seems to stop the questions :tearsofjoy:

Im already in for it. My system is dialed but I am adding rappelling. Bow tune, new arrow setup and new sight this year. Loc ons for the tried and true deep woods spots. Camera gear, etc.

I think I'm done buying for deer hunting from a tree for now. Maybe a new hobby will become apparent and I will spend again.

maybe next year....
I could easily hold out for a season and would when a climber/ stand was good enough.
After my first season in the saddle and getting close on a number of deer - im fired up enough to; try other systems / gear i've read about here. I never practiced in off season with my climber- just the method of take. I like the added element & planning my approach to maximizing time in the woods.

Oh and im about to jump into to recurve rabbit hole.

Years ago when I was young & broke I could do it. Not now; it's become highly addictive lol!

Never!!!! I hate my job, but it pays so good I buy my happiness.

a saddle is my jet ski.I even hang it inside and watch the hunting public while dressed in all my gear. (Kidding... or am I?)

Shooting nerf guns at the deer on tv? I used to do that with my oldest son. Tv screens were a lot thicker back then. :)

Let me go look at what you have said in a scent control thread. Cause if you put gloves on to get dressed, no way you do it with your gear.

If u were to include thermacell and permethrin as "hunting gear" than it's 100% impossible for me. As far as what I would consider hunting gear I need to purchase a pack of feathers and I should be good for the year. Licences are not considered gear but I still have to get them too. I was able to rig up my back support that @colin.704 buddy victor busted so don't need to replace it...if victor joins his screen name will have to be bullinthechinashop or something along those lines....hahahah :)

Well I failed, been buying turkey calls and shells. Already thinking of getting a few things for deer season as well. I will say it won't be as much gear as last year, I hope not anyways. More scouting and practice than gear is my goal.

I heard if you sell something for everything you buy, then it dosent count.
