About ready to call it quits

I hear you. I’ve had a rough season. I had a monster buck that was headed to me chased off the trail by a neighbor on a lawn mower and his dog. He gun hunts the area and knew I was there. A week later, I missed a buck and lost a gut shot doe due a broken sight in the same sit.
All that being said, I’ve spent some great time in the woods and learned a lot. Also, like everyone else has said, it only takes one. 30 seconds and your whole season could change.

Got up at 3am this morning, took a shower and got ready, something in my gut told me to just stay home, but i said nope im going hunting. Went and got gas and started the 30 minute drive. Ive been sick all week with this cold crap, i had cough drops but started to realize 20 minutes in that i cant go 5 minutes without coughing. Its now 4:54am and I'm in bed, going to sleep.

I hear ya. I'm actually debating whether I should go out today or not. I got a really bad night's sleep last night.

I also procrastinated too much and didn't do anywhere near enough scouting and preparation, which makes everything a lot less fun to me. Everything so far this season has felt rushed and more like work than fun.

On the other hand, the weather is going to be bad this weekend, so I'd effectively be throwing in the towel for the year.

"Quitters never win and winners never quit" Keep this thought in your head and decide which one you are. The kill is what we ultimately want but there is more to hunting than that. Being out there in nature's classroom as much as possible will help you in the long run even though you might not think so. And a long boring sit can morph into the success story of a lifetime in the blink of an eye so the more time "wasted" hunting will give you a 100% better opportunity to harvest a deer than sitting on the couch. Never give up...

Definitely sounds like it! The biggest one that’s been killed where I hunt was 144”, and that was 10 years ago
We have big deer here, had a 180” eating acorns in my yard before the season opened. The neighbor killed him opening day of rifle season.

I had the biggest buck Ive seen on public 1 yrd from my shooting lane and spooked him Passed on a doe early season because it was 10 min of legal light left (pretty dark) and didnt think I could make an ethical shot. Ive been eating my tags ever since this yr. Its bow hunting....
Easy to get burnt out, buy as soon as summer is winding down next year I'll be counting down days till opener.

Man I know how it feels. Opening weekend last year I sailed an arrow over the top of what would have been my biggest buck ever at about 10 yards. It was all downhill after that. Ended up doing the same thing on 3 more deer and was really beginning to question if I could get it done. Ended up going deerless the whole season so needless to say it was a low point for me.

Picked the bow up and kept shooting and I’ve tagged 4 this year In the same area with a buck that was bigger than the one I missed last year. My struggles last year have really made me appreciate my success this year.

Keep your head up and keep shooting and you will get it done man and when you do it’ll all be worth it!

Well this season has been a tough one so far. Between wounding what would’ve been my first bow buck, and then having a doe duck my arrow I was frustrated enough. But I decided I would stick with the bow and try to get another chance. I bought some new arrows, with heavier heads to help quiet the bow down a little, and to increase penetration. Started to sight them in today and they were shooting great. When I decided to move the target to 30 yards, the arrow was low. WAY low. I figured something had happened but didn’t know what until I pulled back the bow for another shot. The bow wouldn’t draw all the way back. Turns out, a pin that helps hold my draw length module has disappeared, so now I’m waiting to hear if my bow shop can find a replacement module. If not, guess I’ll be buying a new bow. Definitely my worst deer season so far
Hey bud have you tried to get a replacement pin from the bow manufacturer just saying they might be able to help you with your problem good luck with your future hunts!

Dropped it off at my local archery shop so they would order the part and fix it for me, unfortunately they’re pretty backed up right now

I feel your pain. It was a rough season about a decade ago that made me give up deer hunting for the most part. I am just now getting back into archery hunting.
If your bow is broken, maybe that new bow will be enough to get you fired up to shoot it more.

Your situation is not unique to you. Happens to us all and makes the good seasons that much more rewarding.

This year I upgraded my Mathews Reezen to a Vertex, new heavy arrows, for elk hunting if I can in the coming years, added to my Sitka collection, new boots, complete Saddle set up which will all be here after the season, and no legal deer within range as of Saturday, and season closed. I gave up hunting about a dozen times Satin my head, but can't wait to get the saddle system down pat for next year, haha
