Going down the rabbit hole of filming. Boy there is a lot different stuff out there!

I'd like to start out with an action camera. Something that I can use to catch video while fishing, hunting, and some miscellaneous moments here and there.

Looking at the GoPros, they are kind of spendy but pretty durable looking and waterproof. Being waterproof would be nice for fishing and hunting in the rain. It would just be for over-the-shoulder shots while hunting.

Anybody have any recommendations? Fairly new at looking at all this stuff so any advice is much appreciated!

I would stay away from gopro. I was not impressed for hunting. Filmed several coyote kills and a few traditional bow hunts and that fisheye lens makes a 20 yard encounter look about 100 yards away! Unless they have one with a zoom that I don't know about?

What do you recommend?

The GoPro is only really good for some B roll in my opinion, your release, post shot etc. all up close stuff. I wish I was impressed w the tactacam footage that I’ve seen because I would love for it to work great but I’m not in love

That's what I'm thinking too.

I keep toying with the idea of getting one.... Not really convinced though

Have a go pro, don,t like it , high dollar camera for what it is. I have bought some expensive camera equipment in the past .All this stuff losses value so quick it is not funny.

Bayside legion uses tacticams quite a bit so you can get an idea of what the footage looks like. Dave Owens uses a runcam which is very similar to a Mobius action cam. I got a Mobius planning on using it for turkey season.

If you don’t mind the wide angle and a little distortion, the 360 cameras have some very interesting benefits. My wife got me a Insta 360 one x last year - I didn’t even know what it was. Forget about aiming the camera, just select the focus point during editing, and transition to any angle through the video. I don’t think action cams are great for filming the shot anyway, but for all other ‘action’ these things are handy.

This is what i got. Granted, the 4k doesnt seem like 4k, but for B roll footage it would be a good camera. It comes with lots of accessories and is very reasonably priced. I plan on attaching it to my tether looking down at me. And then use my phone with a mount as a second B roll camera that will look the way im facing. And finally i have a nikon D5300 which will be my main camera and ill attach it to the lone wolf pocket arm once i get it

Used a Gopro on a headband mount a few times this season to see how well it does. It works well IF the animal is at the base of your tree but any further than that and you're out of luck. Just got a Tactacam for Xmas so I will experiment with that with some ground level archery practice and give a performance review.

you be way better off getting a video camera with zoom.

Just my two cents. I have looked into getting a camera for filming my hunts. Never pulled the trigger yet. But I always came back to a canon Powershot that did HD video. Its goPro money dont get me wrong, but It come as a bundle with a ton of accessories. Ill try to find the model. Like I said I'm not proficient in cameras or filming but this looks like the best bang for your buck. Just need a mic and camera arm. Good Luck
I put a the model here
Canon Powershot SX70 20.3MP Digital Camera 65x Optical Zoom Lens 4K Video 3-inch LCD Tilt Screen (Black)
