I know this is a old thread but I just came across it. Cam cleats on the sid is bad ju ju. Cam cleats do not like a what I’d call a side load. Basically if you get enough angle coming off the cleat you can pull the rope out. I know thy probably don’t stack as nice on the top. But they need to be installed in a way that the rope pulls straight through.ho
how well did having the cam mounted on the side work? I am thinking of either using this or a daisy chain method on my home made sticks. I am worried about the stack ability having the cam cleat on the front with my lone wolf tree stand offs.
I bought these off eBay to check them out. Same specs as Harken 150. We’ll see how they work.

Is it not possible to put one on a Shikar?I’d love it if I could put a cam cleat on my shikar one stick.

It is just haven’t seen many doing it. I actually asked Matt from OOAL today when he was live and said just make sure to fill the existing whole with an Allen set screw. To not leave an empty hole for strength. Now to order sone parts!
Did you get that Shikar hooked up with a cam cleat? It is just haven’t seen many doing it. I actually asked Matt from OOAL today when he was live and said just make sure to fill the existing whole with an Allen set screw. To not leave an empty hole for strength. Now to order sone parts!

Let me know how this goes. Definitely interested. I just got My Shikar last week and think it would be perfect with a cam. Which cam did you get?The cam cleat finally came in. USPS delays getting here. Hoping to pick up bolts today and get installed this weekend.

What cam cleat is that?Ok I just got it done. Took longer to hunt Ace than to install it. So far so good!
8-32 x 2” screw. Need to go back and pick up a 1 3/4 to cut down the extra. I also picked up some allen head screws but forgot to get some washers to fit under the head. Rather have Allen vs Phillips.
Also had to put two machine screws in the versa post. They didn’t have a 5/8” so I did a 3/8” & 1/4”.
Things I need to add/change:
-Shorter screw w/ correct washer
-Get some type of plate to install on the back(don’t think it’s necessary but grooves of shikar might make it help)
-order some 1/8” amsteel and do full bury. The 1/4 I had squished up too much and binds up a bit. I tried 6mm TRC I had and it seemed to stretch and pull away from the tree.
Super excited about this though! Now need one of our two sewing machines fixed to make a 2 step webbing aider for it.
What can clear is that?
Hey @Aaronpaul14
I tried 1/4" Amsteel in my Cam cleat and while it gripped perfect the first try, after a second attempt, the Amsteel flattened and slipped. Could be a couple reasons this happened. Have you experienced the flatten and slip??
My cam cleat is NOT a micro.. might be the issue.
Yes Sir, I ordered 8 mm Oplux shortly after that. Another contributor is adding an insulated wire to the cam like @boyne bowhunter does on YouTube to silence the cams. Works great on rope with a core.. not so good on Amsteel..
Update if it works for you! Will look at that. With the micro the max line is 6mm. Wasn’t big fan of the TRC which was the max size. Hopefully the full bury is the ticket.
I'm using a full bury 7/64 and it doesn't flatten/bind. 1/8 should work even better with a full bury.Yes I def found it get flattened. It didn’t slip on the micro but it did bind up so it took a lot to release the rope. I’m hoping a full buried doesn’t flatten so bad. You can kind of see it in the pic how the top cleat came in pretty good when it set. I’m going to play with a few different ropes to see what works best. I think I have enough 7/64 amsteel laying around I might try the full bury on it next.
