Adding cam cleats to Sticks

I'm using a full bury 7/64 and it doesn't flatten/bind. 1/8 should work even better with a full bury.

I am gonna try that with my 1/4" Amsteel and long end bury now. I am not using the Micro Cam Cleat. No other issues?

Update:
So I am new to this Amsteel game.. I could have left this a bit longer.. but at least I learned something. It works!20200809_153512.jpg20200809_153447.jpg20200809_153421.jpg

Just got my Shikar stick in and tried one sticking for the first time. 100% going to get a cable aider and a cam cleat. Looking forward to hearing an update on the best cleat/rope combo for Shikars!!

I made a full bury 7/64 rope and have been playing with it. So far it’s the best I’ve tried. I think the 1/8” will be a tad better. Going to have to work on another order with DanO I think.

A couple questions and I apologize for my ignorance here:

Is that 7/64 Amsteel with a full bury, and if so is there anywhere a novice could order that “pre-buried”? Not sure if I’m ready to go down that rabbit hole quite yet.
How does ansteel compare with rope as far as weight and ease of slinging/moving around a tree? Lastly are you pretty confident in the working load on that harken micro being enough?

Yes it is 7/64 full buried. I’ve never seen anyone selling one but I’m sure either the amsteel guy or custom amsteel product could do a custom deal for you.

It wasn’t too hard just a little time consuming.

Fully buried was pretty easy to toss around the tree but my test tree for sticks isn’t very big.

I have climbed a little everyday with the cam cleat and I’ve done some decent bouncing. Nothing crazy though. I haven’t notice the slighted flex or give in the cleat itself. It is rated at 200# FYI. I will also have an ocb strap taking most of the pressure at height so the cam cleat will really only have weight on the 4-5 moves up the tree. Also they will be slow and gradual rather than quick hard force of bouncing/jumping.

The Harken cam 150 has a breaking strength of 300 lbs per their website. Just in case you're over 200 lbs like me.

I bought these off eBay to check them out. Same specs as Harken 150. We’ll see how they work.

Have you had a chance to try these out? Curious to there performance compared to Harken? I only ask because sometimes even though the price makes it nice the quality isn’t always the same and I don’t want to worry about my 240lb body taking a fall from 18 ft up because of failure. Thanks in advance for any info.

I just bought one of these to put on my helium to one stick. Will let you know how it works. They have smaller versions too, just went with the heavier weight rating since size difference between the cleats was minimal.

I bought 3 of the Schaefer’s from amazon as well and got one installed on my primary one stick. After several test climbs I’ve seen no problems so far. I’ll get a pic put up later.

Installed the cleat today, waiting on my amsteel aider from @DanO should be here Monday. Probably gonna update the rope to some oplux or C-IV. Then I will be practicing it up.

Is that the Schaefer cleat?

This is what I used all year this year. It's installed on a helium I cut down to about 22 inches. I used a Harken Cam-matic 150 for my cleat (West Marine). The rope I'm using is 8mm Samson accessory cord (Wesspur), about 6 feet in length. I just tied it around the helium under the cleat using a figure 8 on a bight. There's a zip tie there but its just to keep the rope from sliding down the stick between hook ups. Let me know if you need any more info.

Are those #10 machine bolts? And how long would I need for the Helium’s? I just ordered a Harken 150 and putting it on a Helium or an EWO stick or a Shikar. Like the looks of that camo job. Would blend in well with most of trees around me well. Mind me asking how you did it? Thank you, I appreciate all the information you guys provide in this site. It’s invaluable to us new guys.

I used two 2-1/2" stainless steel 10-24 oval head bolts on my Heliums with a washer and nylock nut on the backside. They've been there going on three years now and I take them out and inspect them every 6 months or so with no issues yet.
The paint job is the famous @g2outdoors sponge paint job. I start with a complete coat of flat grey primer. Then I put some swathes of a dark brown across it. That is followed by the sponging of the a light brown to provide contrast. Over the years the paint has faded and dulled some but the stick is probably more camoed now than when I first did it.

Where did you find Them at if you don’t mind me asking? Something they’d have at Lowe’s? Can’t seem to find anything online that matches
