Made a rookie mistake, and I'm sharing here so all you cool cats out there dont do what I did.

If you choose to buy your climbing rope and prussik seperate from each other, your prussik rope's diameter should be 60-80% that of your climbing rope.

Not knowing what I didn't know, I bought some Oplux rope (fantastic) but my prussik was bigger and won't bite, so now i got some figurin to do

6mm accessory cord works with it. Hit up my man @DanO at eastern outdoors. He carries the goods.

Would accessory cord be stong enough? Ill check the tensile strength but in my mind i would need something like amsteel for the weight rating?

Yes he has it, i wish i would have just had the foresight to buy it along with the order I just put in for my oplux...

He is the man, he set me up with everything i asked for - i just dropped the ball.

Oh yeah. Sterling accessory is rated for 8kn if I recall. Could also go with Beal Jammy or Beal cordelette. If you're uncertain which direction ask him. I use sterling. Many guys use Beal jammies. Amsteel is the same diameter as oplux iirc plus it's slippery. I want something that bites. YMMV.

Samson accessory cord is strong enough but be careful, its not heat resistant. These small ropes like Oplux heat faster from friction than a larger rope (think about rope burn from different size cords you may have used to raise/lower your bow) and can start to melt the sheath on the accessory cord. When that happens it loses its ability to grip.

I experienced this first hand earlier this year on a practice rappel using my ATC, Oplux and a prusik made from Samson 6mm accessory cord. It got hot enough in a 25', fairly slow rappel that it completely discolored the sheath of the accessory cord and it wasn't holding very securely by the time I got to the bottom. Luckily I wasn't going any farther.

That's good to know, I haven't rappeled with the sterling so wasn't aware. Good info.

Man this is good to know especially for folks who make their own Prusik knots! Thanks!
