First time saddle hunter and just did my 5th climb practicing but this time I did used all my sticks. So I have the Tethrd Skeletors sticks. I have a double sewn aider for the bottom stick from (Hang free). Happy with it. I was able to get to 17’ with 4 sticks. I’m 6’ and need some help:

should I get the single aider sewn by hang free or go with a single Amstel aider? Looking at adding two the three other sticks but may drop one stick and just roll with three that would get me to at least 20’

thanks for your help.

My recommendation- I'm a big believer in the K.I.S.S. system. Stay with what you're comfortable with. If you like the Hang Free aiders, stick with them, then everything is the SAME going up & down. Amsteel aiders are fine, but your aider is kept open by the way it is made. (Note-Amsteel aiders can be bought or modified to do the same thing.)Not a big deal when ascending, but if you also climb down on the same system in the dark, you may want aiders that stay open so your feet will more easily find them.

Not a fan of multiple step aiders, but one added to each stick is nice. And you can keep make it out of pretty much anything. I used some friction cord for mine when I used 3 sticks. I made one out of amsteel I have on a 36” helium stick for one sticking……just tie it on the bottom steps.

stay with what you have that is working well. No need to change what isn't broken

Do folks rappel down using multiple sticks? Or is that only for one sticking?

Lots of ppl rappel down with multiple sticks. I do for the fact I like being attached to the tree when unattaching sticks and I use multiple aiders on each stick and don't like climbing down aiders in the dark.

Thank you. I was thinking the same.

How do you get your rope detached from the tree once your down?

I use a 2 step amsteel aider on my bottom stick and singles on the others. I seldom use more than 3 sticks. I also have the skeletors and I'm 5,11"

Ok I'm a saddle hunter 1st year as well. I using 3 sticks atm( will be going to either 1 or 2 sticks by season start here in Texas). What spacing are your sticks? with 3 sticks you should be higher than 17'. I get up 20+ feet with mine, I made my own aiders single step. I have Tethrd saddle and I'm 6'3

I'm thinking of doing the same thing, going to three sticks with aider, should work .

I don't like multi step aiders in the dark. My aiders are am steel. I use a double on the first and singles on 2nd and 3rd. Usually gets me around 16-18ft to the platform

I bought two single aiders to try them out I might get a third if I like them on the first an second step. Haven't received them yet but am looking forward to trying them.
