AITA/negative encounter.

I'll tell ya what you need to do. Your a saddle hunter right? So you go in an hour before daylight when you know he's gonna use that ladder stand and you set up 20 yards from it. Then when he sneaks in before first light you "accidentally" mistake him for that 10 pointer you've been chasin for the last 3 years. Problem solved. I can't believe none of you other guys could come up with this before me. Sheesh. What a bunch of slackers. Haha! (Disclaimer) I'm just kidding. Don't shoot him. :tearsofjoy:
I thought we were going the "spur up the tree his ladder stand is on about 20ft above him and drop pinecones on his head like a squirrel all morning" route at first. Took a turn

Better yet saddle in above his ladder stand in the same tree and drop liquid a## on him for awhile.

This is a situation we would sort out around these parts with a decent bottle of whiskey. Bring one over to his house and get into it. As long as you get 2 or 3 glasses down, everything will get worked out. Piece of cake.

I'm gonna go ahead and say never try that in the south.

Good time to resurrect this thread. Negative encounter with same neighbor #2. Two years later.

Same neighbor, same property. This property is basically a ridge point with two huntable sides, the north side and the east side. Last encounter with this neighbor was on the east side. Right now I’m on the east side, 30 yards off a field edge. Neighbor drives his side by side through the field to drop off some stranger that I don’t know and walks right past me. I wave. He gives me the arms out like ***? I give him a thumbs up. He gets close and says you know I have a tree stand over there right? I say , how many tree stands do you have on this property? He says two. I say good luck. He storms off with crossbow toting stranger.

Last time I got pretty heated and we had a nice shouting match in the woods. This time, I’m a little older, a little wiser. I just said good luck. He seems to think that two permanent tree stands gives him claim to both sides of this property that he doesn’t own. I’m not going to convince him of anything different. So I’m not going to try.

Happy hunting!m

Edit: this guy isn’t a bad dude. He’s done me some solids over the years and is for the most part a great neighbor, just a poopy hunting neighbor.

For folks (like the both of us, it seems) that don't like drama, this sort of thing is off putting We avoid it when possible.

I always thought other people were like that too. Nope, some folks have drama and hardship in their lives simply because "it's Thursday" and they have a huge list of beefs they curate and they don't mind it. They find it somewhat exciting. They probably think other people are like them also and are always dealing with this type of (self-created) drama.

Most of the ways in which humans are somewhat fascinating......are bad things.

I'm naturally a "people person", except when it comes to hunting. I try to avoid people as much as I try to locate deer. I've never seen anything incite people to complete stupidity, to the point of losing a marriage, splitting families, and committing felonies, like deer hunting will. I try to actively avoid the bipedal primates when Whitetail hunting.

I don't think you're the A-hole in this situation. I do think I'd consider if hunting this particular parcel of land is worth the cyclical soap opera you're exposed to.

sounds like this guy thinks he has rights to the whole property now for some reason and has even decided to let his buddies also use it (does the land owner know this?) You've already extended the olive branch and this guy showed his true colors. Unfortunately at this point it might be worth getting the land owner involved and clarifying who has permission and what the expectations are. To me this guy sounds like a give an inch take a mile person and will continue to take advantage of this situation and see how far he can take it.
