AM or PM during the Rut?

It can happen at anytime during the rut.

I love to hunt in the mornings but I've shot more bucks in the late morning and afternoon.

Mourning/late Mourning. Maybe the Mournings I've killed that particular afternoon would have been great as well but I wouldn't know because I've tagged out in the a.m. lol I've seen good action late too like the last 40 min of light but for whatever reason I seem to kill more in the a.m.

I saw 22 deer yesterday AM . 17 after 10 AM It takes them a while to get to this spot. Killed an 11pt here in 2020 11:13 AM. Same spot.. in PM I got in about 3 PM. Saw 11. Most in the last hour.

what was the temperature yesterday AM and what state are you in?

I am pretty certain I have seen more bucks in the morning but I have killed the majority of bucks in the afternoon.
That's interesting because I kinda feel the same way. See them in the morning and kill them in the afternoon or evening.

Just trying to get a feel for what other like as far hunting during the rut. It kinda goes without saying obviously that any time up in a stand or saddle is a great time time during this period. I was just thinking back over the last 30 seasons that I have hunted both AM and PM usually only getting down to relocate or eat. Looking back at all the Bucks I have killed during this period, 60% have been in the evening. 30% in the mid to late afternoon, and just 10% in the morning. What are you guys experiences or thoughts on this?
47th season and I still haven’t figured it out lol Clear cold mornings has always been good an hour or so after the does head back to bedding in the early rut. I always felt they cover turf at that hour after does have gone to bed and it’s easier to hit trails and scrapes to check their status.
The older bucks seem to move later in the rut during daylight. I have had good luck at mid day….about the time you think the rut is winding down and almost over. I think they know precisely when does are the most likely ready to breed. My take anyway. Good Luck!

Spots that are bedding oriented or buck travel corridors, really any time of day but my peak windows are roughly first couple hours after sunup and then around 11-1.

Feed-oriented spots, definitely evening.

My usual routine in cold weather, sit doe bedding until around 1 or 2, quick relocate and sit until dark.

In warm weather the 11-1 action is greatly diminished and I'll usually call it around 11 and go back out for the last couple hours before dark.

I suppose if you have the option to hunt relatively unpressured deer you could pattern them to some extent. For me if I know the rut is on I plan to sit or hunt all day.
