I was wondering if anyone has tried a rope mod like this? I just used my tether and prusic, but was thinking about doing this with amsteel. I have used the amsteel daisy chains last season, but it seams like I was always in between loops. With the prusic I will be able to eliminate that issue. Thoughts?

Wonder if the bark could sit on the prussic in such a way that it disengages?

Nice idea!! I think if you had slightly smaller prusik cord it would keep it off the tree and in the gap between stick and tree. I don’t think the tree would loosen the prusik at all but better safe than sorry.

Wonder if you could also add a tender and have 1 handed adjustments. Not sure it would work or not though.

If I recall correctly, that is actually how the ‘rope mod’ started way back in the day on Archery Talk. Then people realized it was easier to just wrap the Versa button with rope or webbing. Then came daisy chains.

There was also Amsteel UCRs in there as well, but I don’t remember where they were in the timeline. I think they were very early (possibly even before the rope/prussic).

Try it and see what you think on your third or fourth stick on a leaner. I think you will find the prussic is more hassle than benefit.
But, maybe you will love it.

Did you try puting your weight on the step? Bounce on it? I tried this method with 8mm rope and 6mm prussik. The prussik would lock up so tight that it was a pain to get the rope loose enough to remove the step. I now just wrap the 8mm around the button and have a V notch on the back of the stick to jam lock the rope.

Been using that on ladders (Rapid Rails) for over a year now (13" commercially sewn prusik by Sterling) with no issues. Super easy to set up and take down, as well as attach for transporting.

Shouldn't worry about being between loops. Just pick the closest one that isn't too tight. Amsteel daisy chains work fine with slack in the rope. If the tree is really small you could wrap the chain around twice. I know the slack bothered me when I first started but I realized that my sticks weren't going anywhere. I am putting an Amsteel daisy chain on my platform for next season.

A 7/64 amsteel whoopie sling would be the same concept but much more compact and light weight. I do like the idea though.

Can you post a picture of how you are attaching to a Rapid Rail?

I have two sets of Rapid Rails. One with the original Chinese handcuff type rope and another set with the strap and buckle.

BTW, I have some of the older Chinese handcuff models too, originals made by Prejean, the original founder of company.

Yes. I bought my original rails from Wayne Prejean at a sports and outdoor show in Texas. The set with straps are Ameristep. I have two of his hang on stands. A Non Typical Outfitter and a Patriot Hunter. I love the Rapid Rails. If you have a minor slip you don't get gouged or cut by a step. Have you tried one sticking with a Rapid Rail?

This is my setup. The pics are from older RR ladder where I used a non-sewn prusik, which has worked fine with proper knots. The easiest option has been a sewn prusik that I've found from Sterling Rope with 13 inch loop end-to-end. The hardware can be bought on-line, but essentially a stainless steel bushing with bolt passing through it with washers on both sides of the ladder attachment points. Some may prefer to have washer on terminal end of bushing or stud, but I've found it harder to attach the prusik loop and unnecessary. Even if inadvertently knocked loose the prusik loop has never slipped off the stud. Under tension, you cannot pull the prusik loop from the stud.

As for using RR ladders for one-sticking, I've not tried them or any other method of one-sticking.
