Another Pull Up Rope Question…

I've had a small fly fishing reel zip tied to my summit climber for the last 10 years lol think I got it at a yard sale. Works great. I want to say I put duck decoy line on it so it's strong and holds up in the elements year after year

I’ve been using UHMWPE “kite” line (it’s like a cheap, small diameter dyneema) as a bow pull up rope for a couple of years now just because it’s so small and packable while still being plenty strong. It can be a little hard on the fingers, but it’s worth it for me, and it now doubles as the pull down rope for my rappel rope.

I like the idea of a gear hoist, but they’re all just so big and bulky that I’ve never bothered trying one. But I’ve often wondered why someone doesn’t make a much smaller one for 1.3mm braided line. It would be like a Doyle’s hoist but a third or quarter the size and still plenty strong.

I just happened to see the new integrated bow winch on APA’s 2023 bows, and that got me all excited because it seems to be exactly what I was looking for… but then I heard the $150 price tag! No thanks.

But that got me wondering if I could just rig up something myself. I’m fairly handy. Does anyone have any ideas or shortcuts on how to rig up a tiny, manually cranked bow hoist?

cheap fishing reel mounted on your pack?

I don't see how you can beat 550 cord in a figure 8 but if you have to have a heavier system, this thing works really well. Light Wt, Quiet ,Cheap. Put chaulk line in it.Resized_20221201_111154_9234.jpegResized_20221201_111154_9234.jpeg

They are bow pull up cord and holders.

You don't have a link, do you? I'm not finding anything that looks like that in my searches--from LL Bean or anywhere else. They look pretty small, like scupper plug size. Is it cumbersome to wrap them up?

Sorry, you have to go back in time.
The number 1 rule of hunting equipment, if it is good they stop making it.
You could DIY something, but as @Blacksmith said 550 in a figure 8 is my go to.

I replaced the line on a Harbor Freight dog leash with the pre-spliced throwline kit from EWO... I think it's 40' but I can't deploy all of it.

That Dyneema kite string will probably spool great on a chalkline reel. I pulled a cheap HF one apart but the 40' of pre-spliced throwline was too bulky and it left about 10' hanging out. The bigger DeWalt chalkline reels will probably work just fine though, or use an appropriately shorter length of line.

I had my dog leach clipped to my rig with a carabiner and got no end of frustration from it. So I fished it through the grommet on the bottom of a MOLLE canteen pouch and put the hook back on. Works great. Also, when I was in TX I found some saltwater treble hooks; filed the barbs off and points down and discovered that the eye on it fits the 'carabiner' clip that EWO includes with the throwline kit. So that stays on the 'biner unless I take it off to haul down my rappel line. I like it so much I'll probably add a second dog leash to my other hip so I can use one to lower my bow or rifle and the other to haul down my rappel line. I use my rappel line itself to haul my pack up and down.

If you want some sort of spool, google/ebay/amazon search scuba diving finger reel. Lots of options from that world.

Cheap retractable dog leash. Mine was $5 in the checkout line at ikea and it’s rated for a big pitbull. Sorry about the upside down photos, they are not upside down on my camera roll View attachment 76776View attachment 76777
I do same thing. Found a 27' one thats very small but was exspensive. I cut handle off and put in pack with rope coming out hydration holes at straps. Comes out as you climb and retracts as you come down. Can't beat it.

25-30 feet of paracord. Only takes about 60 seconds to stow in a manner that ensures no tangles the next time you use it. Quiet. Not bulky.
