Back to sticks

Ive tried every which way i could think of to use those little steps with just Amsteel to no avail. Just cant get them to sit tight enough to the tree with any method known to me with the Amsteel. Sucks cause I think i calculated I could use 9 of them to get to like 22 feet or so for under 3 pounds, oh well.

But that sounds pretty crazy to use a knaider/swaider with those things being theyre so small. I hope it works for you better than i think it will if you do give it a shot though, would be nice and light.
Ive actually seen it done somewhere on here if im not mistaken. I want to say someone added a amsteel loop to some ameristeps, or to the strap next to the step to be exact. Ive also seen one member in particular use just a strap with a buckle and two loops to get up a tree with a knaider and swaider. That's a little extreme for me too. Might as well use 2 tethers with foot loops to climb with. At any rate, since I posted that, I have 3 17" shikars and a mini on the way so "back to sticks" it is! Or atleast ill use them more than I did my muddys, just too heavy.

Ive been eyeballing those too but have held off being i was planning on picking up some more of those squirrel steps and going with just the steps after using sticks for so long.

I like sticks but for way back stuff am looking to fit the bare necessities in as small a pack as I can. I like how those Shikars fold up though as right now I have 20yo LW sticks cut down to 20" with Doublesteps on them. The fixed steps make them somewhat of a pain to transport imo. I like how the 5 squirrel steps i was using for a ring of steps packed so small in a pack so figured id use em to climb.

I turned my diy sticks into pivot sticks (similar to shikars). Now, at 20", they stack two to a side. Yeah, you've gotta reassemble them at the base of the tree, but with the large nuts, it doesn't take that long!

Ive been trying to avoid building a set of sticks but the more I think about exactly what I want, the more I realize that's the only way(especially after reading what I typed about "my perfect" we stepp). I think 4 mini sticks plus my ROS would get me close to 30ft which is sufficient in most areas I hunt. So unless I take to one sticking, Ill probably build a set something like this: about 10inches, double step, and of coarse a cam cleat.
@swampdonkey If I hunted some of my old public spots more frequently, I would definitely go the one stick route, mini stick with my squirrel step ROS, no questions asked.
