Backing Things Up

Not trying for a gotcha moment with anybody....just saying that all those double backup safety stuff is great while u at hunting height but rappelling down we all just reply on that 1 rope on maybe the most dangerous part....I don't back anything up and do stupid things sometimes but I'm a big boy and I'll suffer the consequences of my mistakes
I didn't take it as an insult. It is true that is the weak spot in my system so I can't be upset. I just try to make sure the rope, loop and tree branch are as sound as can be. Unless I'm tethered to 2 trees I am not backed up there either. Besides, if one tree were to fall while I was tethered to two trees at once it would not be a pretty sight. Some things I don't think can be backed up. If I can do it light and simple, I always do so.

I
Actually, I attached the ripstop directly to my belay loop and then connect the tether into that. My tether is just 8mm oplux with a prussik loop attached.

I used to have the ripstop on the tether (attached to the prussik) but it got in the way a little more that way while I climbed. Either way is probably fine. Also, the ripstop is not a critical part of this and could be omitted altogether. I like having it because I don't worry too much about slack building in my secondary tether as a I climb with it.

The ripstop is connected to the belay loop via a shackle (link below). Its underneath all that vet tape.

I use this exact same ripstop on my tether while one sticking. I don't use it for anything else but I may in the future like rappeling down but with the safeguard I don't see the need as I pretty much have full control with the device.

U still rely on just 1 rappel rope correct?
Are you suggesting rappelling using both sides of an ATC? Interesting. You could use thinner rope and get your rope out of the tree easier. Rock climbers frequently do this. Time to search Youtube.
Edit: You would have to rappel over a crotch so this may not be a good idea. It would be limiting not being able to girth hitch on the trunk.
Wait. Alpine butterfly girth hitch? Yes that should work.
Edit 2: Rapelling on 1 line on thinner rope would be bad. Maybe not a good idea

Yep, girth hitch a 3 foot climbing sling (nylon loop) from Sterling to my saddle belt (not bridge, my belt has a rated Cobra buckle so this backs up my bridge also). My lineman's belt is girth hitched on the tree below my tether and then clipped to the nylon sling, adjusted so it is slightly slack and not in the way.

But move, think, and act like you don't have a back up!

So you don’t use the bridge loops even?

Two bridges, two tethers. Since making this video I’ve switched to two identical 8mm Oplux tethers. One has a prusik while the other has a Kong Duck ascender

I’m finding the Mammut RC harness I use with the JX3 - very similar methods as you, including a screamer on tether for the climb - is a tad uncomfortable... but if I switch to this one I might attempt to fit it underneath my camo pants haha.
