I want a really good winter boot for cold temps and have heard great things about Baffin. However, are Baffins comfortable enough if you're hiking in 1+ miles? I won't have that far to walk for the majority of my hunts but I do occassionally hike in a mile or two.

Can anyone with Baffins weigh in? I specifically looking at the Control Max boot.

Or does anyone recommend a different boot?

I have the Baffin Impact boots. I know they're different than the ones you mentioned, but mine are absolutely terrible for walking in. Heavy, clunky, and a lot of slippage. Worst of all, my feet still get cold in them. If you can try them on and you like they way they feel, I'd say go for it. I ordered mine online, which I feel like isn't a very wise decision.

My friend I have owned many a boot looking for warmth since I not only deer hunt in the winter cold, but I ice fish where your standing on the ice all day long. And in all my 68 yrs. I have only found one boot I would bet on keeping anyone's feet warm. And that is the military Mickey Mouse Boot! they not only keep your feet warm, but they are still light enough not to tire you down when you walk. I wear 1 pair of wool socks with them, & my feet stay toasty warm. I even had my foot slip into a hole in the ice getting my left foot wet. I took off the boot drained the water put the sock back on after wringing it out & put them both back on & figured when I couldn't take it anymore I would get off the ice. But I fished the rest of the day and my foot continued to make heat even though my foot was wet. Research them my friend I am not a salesman for them but just believe in a Great product. Now they make a generic type of boot that comes from Korea, I think or one of those countries overseas. But you can tell they are much bigger than a real Mickey Mouse Boot, & usually the generic is black in color,( AND THEY ARE JUNK). Mine are white with air valves on the outside of the boots next to the heal part of your boot. Although I have see M/M/B in black they will look just like the white ones same size, & weight. Hope this helps you didn't mean to type a book but I also know how aggravating, expensive it is to find the right boots.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm seeing on a couple of sites that say the boots run large and that most people can wear a pair one size smaller than their normal size and that someone who normally wears a "wide" can wear a "narrow." I typically wear a size 11 regular. If I decide to get a pair, should I go with a 10 regular, 10 narrow, or an 11 regular?

I have never seen them come in mutable sizes, but what you can do is if they seem a little wide on you either put on another pair of socks, or put air into the chambers on them. I wear a 9 and I bought a 9 and they fit perfect. Remember these were designed for the Air Force in Alaska & other extremely cold conditions. If you have a Army surplus some where close to you you may find them there so you could try them on. Hope this helps.
