Battle Belt Mod to Mantis

Just did the battle belt mod to my Mantis. I was already very comfortable in the mantis as is...however, I thought the battle belt mod would be a better platform for storing my dump pouches...it was. It’s also easier to climb with a Helium attached to the battle belt as opposed to adding even MORE weight to the belt of the saddle. I know it’s a bit counterintuitive to add bulk to a streamlined system like the Mantis; however, it has been an even better upgrade than I had hoped. I just didn’t like so much weight being held to the Molle webbing of the saddle...now that it’s on the belt instead, it’s so much easier to walk in with the saddle on now. 2 other benefits: 1) my SYS haulers can be located right on the side of my waist for much easier access to linesmen belt and tether as opposed to being more on the backside of my butt and 2) I really think it will increase the life of the saddle as the belt is now not being taxed with dump pouches full of ropes, back bands, HYS straps, and caribiners. Side note: I never really experienced much “riding up” from the Mantis, but I think if you are someone who does experience this, this mod would certainly help that problem.

I would love to try and show pictures, but every time I try and upload pictures it says the image is too big...any way around this??

I got the One Tigris model...bought it on Amazon for around $30. I ordered a Medium which is adjustable but will fit a waist size of 31-37. I used 4 4” Condor MOD straps to attach the belt to the saddle. They were cheap, like $6 or so. I believe @Dan-O sells the battle belt as well. Would have bought the one on his site and supported a fellow saddle hunter had I seen they carried it before I checked Amazon.

My #1 complaint on the mantis is the dinky little waist belt. Too narrow to be real useful. Going to try this mod.

This mod also allows a minimalist to go packless if he or she chooses to. Certainly tougher to do just using pouches on the waist belt.

How is everyone keeping their outter layers positioned? I hunt in the Midwest and like the concept but trying to figure out how to keep my outter later from riding up and exposing base layers - like this mod idea but seems like it’ll just make my jacket ride higher

I wear First Lite gear which has long tails on all the jackets so I don’t have that problem. However, you can put your jacket on at the base of the tree and run the Battle Belt over the jacket so it actually helps keep the jacket inside if you choose to run it that way. I usually walk to my trees and climb without a jacket and just put the jacket on over the battle belt when I’m at hunting height.

I ran the battle belt mod all year without a pack and didn’t miss all the crap I used to tote that I didn’t need.

I ran the battlebelt mod all season long last year as well, I did have to have some beefier pouches for some of my equipment, as I climb with drill and bolts, and I added a larger/deeper pouch for my tether and linemans and it holds my squirrel steps perfectly, it's some extra weight of course, but i have the essentials and nothing extra, and still no backpack.20190925_065813.jpg

I think im going o try this. All my stuff carried fine I just needed more real estate for attaching sticks and platform. Now where did you get the little fleece pouch that your bow hoist is in??

@DanO carries the one I use on his website. They fit the Doyle’s gear hoist perfectly.
