Saw this on youtube. Excellent idea for a cheaper version of a light climbing stick

I just finished a beast-style mod to my API sticks, but I took it a step further and offset the steps and brackets to allow them to stack vertically. I used nutserts/rivet nuts so the sticks stack closer together. I got the idea for the nutserts from SRT Saddle Hunter on YouTube (link below). My steps are 22.5" apart with a total stick length of 25". I would have liked to make the step spacing a little less, but I'm planning to carry these on a JX3 and needed enough space to span the folded up bottom frame. Weight, including 7/64" amsteel daisy chain, is 2#5oz per stick with a total weight for the set coming in at about 6#15oz. With a simple bungee loop around the stack they carry really well.

I used these from Amazon. 5/16-18.

Edit: I didn't read the above post very well. You asked how I set the nutserts not where I got them. Sorry. They are not set. Since they're used in tension it's not really needed. I made up a test piece where I set one and I didn't think it improved anything and was a bit of a pain. If you want to set them and you don't have a nutsert gun you can do it with a bolt and 2 nuts. Plenty of youtube videos showing how.

I actually saw this on facebook and I considered it. But they aren't my sticks so I just did what I was asked to do

The nut inserts are not designed to be use like that. You are really only relying on the small shoulder to take all the support. They are ment to be set and the force pulling to keep them set. Really a thin shoulder on all the ones i have and have used.
