Beavertail Sneak Boats

I'm looking to get a boat of some kind this next year mostly for solo duck hunting, but possibly some fishing and other water activities. I want to be able to get out when the family isn't able or doesn't want to go out.

My requirements are that it be light and small enough to pack away by myself and fit either on or in my SUV. I don't need a motor, and I don't have a hitch on my SUV.

I don't plan on hunting directly from the boat, I can easily set up in reeds, but I need to be able to get to where I need to. With something like the beavertail sneaks I could see it being a possibility. It's not only compact but also has a larger weight limit than the 10ft kayaks I was looking at.

Does anyone have experience using the Beavertail sneak boats?

No Beavertail experience but I've hunted and fished out of a solo canoe since 2007. I like kayaks and how they can be purpose-built for specific types of hunting and fishing. But for me, I prefer the versatility of a Royalex solo canoe like the Old Town Pack. Easier to pack gear and game in. I use a kayak paddle with mine; it came equipped with a lower 'tractor' style seat, below the waterline, like a kayak, rather than a traditional canoe gunwale-high bench seat. No issues hunting with it but you'll want to be pretty firmly fixed to the mud if you plan on shooting a shotgun from it.

The issue I've been encountering is that the short 8-12 ft canoes (which I'd need a shorter one to load in my SUV) have lower weight limits (250lb) which would only allow for me in my hunting clothes with a gun. That or they cost upwards of $1000, which is beyond my price for a kayak or canoe. Id rather double that and get a real boat

Makes sense. That's pretty short. I paid IIRC $300 for mine at Richard's, it's a 12' and fits me and a big cooler and camping gear.... granted I wouldn't want to take that into heavy water but still. I carry it on my roof.

Have you seen the Folboats? Marketed to the RV and liveaboard crowds. Folding boat that you can row or power.

Im super happy with my Phantom.Had it for many years and it’s amazing . I duck hunt and fish out of it. A lot more stable then a kayak but a bit heavier. Easy to paddle , kayak paddle works best. I even filled mine to the top with water with me in it to test if it would sink and it didn’t come close to sinking.
My only negative is having no seat but I started using my folding Turkey hunting chair for a seat and works great.

14 ft old town that I picked up on FB marketplace for $200ish. Light, easy to paddle, and holds a bunch of gear. I’d love to have a four rivers layout but they are too pricey for me.

Easy to load with one person. It’ll probably get camouflaged soon.

I have an Ascend H-10 and love it for solo duck hunts and also fishing. I think it has a 400lb weight capacity so that can carry a lot of gear. I’m not sure they are in stock anymore but you could likely find one used

i did wind up finding a kayak. i found a steal of a deal on a Lifetime Yukon Angler, best time of year to buy a yak. Something i can fish from during the summer months also.

I looked for an ascend H12 but couldn’t find a used one. I like the hybrid kayaks.
