I've never used spikes b4 but by the weekend I'll be the owner of my first set. Any advice on getting going. Any do's or don'ts?
WHW has it right, think that you want to hold the tree between your palms. you want a little space between you and the tree too.. think like a triangle: the tree, your arms, and your torso/legsStand upright and don't hug the tree. Climb with your legs and not your arms. Take short steps and look where you set your gaffs. As mentioned, practice going up and down at a low height until you trust the spurs and gain confidence.
Man, I watched a demo by flinging arrows and felt like u could figure it out pretty quick. A bit worried now. I cant use it on public ground in Az so practice is gonna be hard to come by. Will it eat up a power pole pretty bad?

Cedar/pine Ash also wasn't great iirc.Any tree species to absolutely avoid in ohio? I have mainly maple, oak, poplar, hickory, shark, walnut
Start on the tree low, there is no need to climb above 5ft or so when practicing.. goof around a bit figure out how far you can go before you gaff out.. make sure you gaff out a lot before climbing above 5ft or so..
Make sure you use trees that no one will see or ones that are being cut down cause you are going to mess them up pretty bad...
I never used a tree squeeze but I did try the "flingin x" after reading about it on here, it was ok but I tried it after I was already comfortable just using the lineman belt the standard way so it's not something I do regularly.

The first time I tried them I almost threw them in the river. Hated them!
Then I tried again and I still hated them but a little less.
By the 4th try I was ok.
DO NOT go above 3 or 4 feet at first. Go up and down, up and down until you get out figured out.
Short small steps are key. Don't lean too far away from the tree.

I was exclusively spurs last year but this year I have bolts, SRT, and will probably also buy beast sticks once they go back on sale. I'm excited to try other options. I like climbing with spurs but I don't like the removal part up in the tree.I gotta give mine some more mileage this season now that o have the predator platform. I loved the bolts so much the past two seasons that I haven’t used my spurs once in the season. Can’t justify keeping after a third season without use.
