Best backpack for sticks, platform, etc.

Thats funny, got to be something out there, i keep buying and sending back, like the Sitka tool box, but its just too heavy.

This is going to be really subjective. Also budget dependent because some get pricey. Personally, I try to just stick with a small pack, wear my saddle, and carry my sticks with a shoulder sling. Getting a giant pack for saddle gear seemed counterproductive to me. But I don't film and pack miles in or pack meat like some people do. That being said, a lot of people seem to like the Eberlestock X2.

I run a Mystery Ranch Pop Up 28 and a EXO 1800 I love them both. EXO doesnt feel as big as it looks, it's my favorite of the two.... I take way too much stuff in the woods tho.

Did 4 miles in the Eberlestock X2 yesterday on public. Had my platform, sticks, saddle, knee pads, linesman belt, tether and all my gear in the pack while scouting. A comfortable pack!

What’s the etc.? What’s your budget?

Looking for the ultimate backpack, not to heavy or bulky, any suggestions. Thanks

What you’re looking for doesn’t exist.

All you can do is utilize what you have the best you can.

Me personally, i use a variety based on situation and need; Badlands reactor, Badlands Monster, Badlands Superday, and for late season all day sits in brutal weather when i need everything i own to survive i use my Exo K2 frame pack.

But i don’t think you’ll ever find just one to do it all.

I'm considering doing a custom kind of setup.

I want to purchase a cheap external frame pack. Before leaving the truck, I would strap both the sticks and the platform together, then strap those to the frame. I would then strap a bag to the outside of that. This would keep my hands free minus the weapon of course. When arriving to the tree, I would unstrap the bag, sticks and platform. The frame would stay on the ground until the hunt is over. I would climb with the bag on my back.

I have been contemplating this for several days. I don't want to spend $200 on a pack. I will never bone out a deer because I have a game cart I can retrieve the deer with and the processor is close by in town. I have seen cheap frames on FB marketplace that I can strip down to just the frame.

Poke a hole in my idea, I am interested in the feedback.

Think Im going to stick with my old cabelas fleese pack, and carry my sticks over my shoulder in one of those bags that come with folding camping chairs, just tried it and it works great, found one at walmart called the ozark trail, don't care about the chair just use the bag. Less than $5.

I’ve done exactly as you’re suggesting with the frame of my Exo pack on occasion.

Worked fine.

If you don't mind me asking, what were your preferred lashing techniques for the sticks/platform/ bag? Pics would be helpful if you have them. Thx

Well, the Exo frame has straps on the frame already and i just attached the bag over all of it with their bag attachment straps.

Id take the bag off and just take that up the tree and leave the frame at the base of the tree.

But the only problem is the Exo stuff is $$$$$$! But i’d imagine you could get a cheaper frame as you’re suggesting and use any sort of cinch strap in a similar fashion for much less.

I only bought this pack for backcountry Mule deer hunts out west really but started using it at home for when i need to carry lots of stuff, mainly late season.

OMG your so right on the $$$ for that stuff. That being said, there are frames around here where I live for sale like $25 for just an aluminum frame.
I am glad to here you did the same thing I am contemplating.

Yeah, i’d suggest for Whitetail finding any frame in your price range.

This is my Western pack and i’d have not purchased it JUST for hauling sticks and Platforms on it but I would pack a Whitetail out with it.

Point being though, you could totally do what you’re thinking i think it would work great.

I've tried several and so far the Sitka Tool Bucket and Cargo Box are my favorites.

I got a elevation tri zip. Sticks are lashed on the bottom, platform on one side and fourth arrow on the other, with my clothes and camera arm base in the main compartment...calls, release and range finder in the little pockets on the hip belt...also have the option to carry your bow with a bow attachment that comes with it.

Lol. This is the neverending quest it seems. I am in the camp of wanting to carry sticks, platform, and regular necessities but also want the capability of strapping my bow to the bag for when i ride my mountain bike to keep me hands free, as well as would like the ability to haul out a deer on my back instead of multiple 1.5mile+ trips to hike out drop my stuff, grab a cart/sled, drag that all the way back in, load the deer, drag that back out......ugh. rather quarter it, put it on a load shelf or in a pack, strap my sticks to my previously utilized bow carry area and haul it out on the first trip out with my bow in my hand.

Im also feeling like ill utilize the same pack a little more fully for western hunts, so an additional expense on it would be understandable.

Hello guys. I am brand new to the forum but here is a set up idea for you. If you see the attached pictures of the smaller tactical style bags you will hopefully understand what I am describing.
Your platform will be connected to the rear of the bag via the vertical strap. You can add additional vertical straps if desired to the left or right of the strap in the center or just add clips or carabiners or 550 cord. Then your sticks go on the sides of the pack and can be secured using whatever method you want. Buckles, 550 or whatever. Then you have a water pocket for a water bladder if you need it for your hunt, or leave it empty. You have the additional pockets for whatever you want, jackets, range finders, blah blah blah and the pack is made in the USA (Condor) and weighs under two pounds.

In the pictures with the helmets, just imagine that’s where your platform goes instead of the helmet. So it is super easy to access as are your sticks that are secured to one or both sides.

Black condor pack is about $60 on Amazon and can be painted to whatever camo your area dictates if you want to paint it.

Just my try at this puzzle. Thanks for reading.
