Best Cell Camera

Since this post has turned into a Tactacam add I thought I should mention the Browning Defender Pro Scout camera. They are $199 cameras. I’ve attached pics of different animals moving, still, night and in snow for contrast. These are pics sent to my cell and the cameras are in factory settings not high resolution.

You apparently didn’t read the thread considering most of the major cell cams are mentioned. The OP said he was leaning towards a reveal X so me bringing up the review was very relevant to the conversation. Guess some people will find a reason to complain about anything.

Haven’t messed with the brownings at all but that would definitely be another mid range price cam to consider. Have run several non-cell brownings and they are solid cams.

I didn’t mean any offense and yes I did read the posts. The Reveal X was discussed more and it seemed there was a void in the midpoint cameras list. The Brownings have been for better at my lease then the Exodus, Spypoints and Moultrie. There has not been a Reveal deployed anywhere close, that I know about.

Thanks for reply Delta. Glad you chimed in with the browning cams as those had totally slipped my mind in the mid range section. Haven’t heard anything but good things about the pro scout version and the only complaint I’ve heard about the defender version is that it takes 16 AA batteries which is a lot. The pro scout takes 12 if I’m not mistaken which is typical. The only other thing I have heard are their cell plans are pricy but I haven’t looked into them. Browning makes good stuff so I don’t doubt that their cams perform well. One thing I hope they changed about the cell version of their cams is the ability to adjust the motion sensitivity. They don’t give the user an option to change this on most of their cams and my brownings trigger on leaves blowing in the wind in an open field 100+ foot away. I got frustrated with getting so many pics without animals in them and if this is the case with their cell cams, this would be really bad for consuming lots of data unnecessarily.

Haven't checked out Browning cell cams but I always loved their other options. CS was lacking for me but the cams themselves were superb.

The Defender Scout Pro model uses 8AA batteries. View attachment 47068Here is a pic of box and Cell plan pricing for this model Browning camera.

Sorry for multiple posts/questions (I tend to do this when I read one post and have an immediate thought..haha) - what cell service do they utilize and which do you use? How is the service? Anything else I (or anyone else should know). The monthly plans seem very reasonable and competitive with Tactacam..

Thanks again for the info!

No, I use them on private property. I do believe they would work elevated. They have a pretty wide range of motion detection, definitely wider than the spy points I have used in the past.

Haha, I don’t mind the questions. The camera’s are available in both AT&T or Verizon. All my cameras are AT&T. We do not have good Verizon coverage in the area these cameras are set up. I would say the battery life , Entergizer, has been exceptional. I just changed the batteries in camera #1 this weekend. The card is reading 60% full, so it has sent a lot of pics since October.

Sounds like they’re worth looking into!

I have 2 flavors. Bigfoot cell cams and Spypoint micro links.

I have 4 Bigfoots that have been running on public land 24/7 365 for the last 3 years with no hiccups. Lithium batteries tend to last 4-6 month depending on amount of pics. Bigfoots have a wider lens so I put these in slightly more open areas like travel corridors so I can see what's going on in a larger area. The Bigfoots also allow me to control how high of resolution to email back to me. you do use more data for choosing high res, but it's really nice to see all the details.

I have 5 spypointn link micros that have all been functioning flawlessly for the past 2 years (24/7/365- I never take my cams down). These have much narrower lens so I am placing them over smaller features like scrapes or mineral licks etc, where I don't need that wide field of view. The pic quality that comes back to you remotely is also pretty low resolution but I know that going in and they are still worth it.
Which model Bigfoot cameras do you have? Thanks

It's nice but I agree with you regarding cost. If all you care about is getting decent pictures for scouting and don't need super high res ones to come via cell, I would say save yourself the money and get the Tactacam Reveal X for $100 when they come out in May. You'll be able to get many more eyes in the woods for the same price and the cell plans are very reasonable. Long term, the cuddeback cuddelink system will save you the most money regarding cell plan costs though. It seems not many people think about the longer term costs of the cell plans when they buy into a camera but that should be a big consideration IMO and Spartan/Exodus are right near the top in cost of cell plans unless you are able to take advantage of their Verizon connect program (where the cams can use the data off your cell phone plan).

What's the verizon connect program? Is this with spartan? Seems like sending video is not much of an option unless you would have something unlimited? At least not for me, I can't imagine how astronomical the data plans would get with video.

i had that exact issue with my Browning this month as the leaves popped out. Blew through my 1200 thumbnail allowance before I could get out there and get things sorted out. No more pics sent to me until my account month rolls over.

I've got 4 of their original wide lens 3G's. Haven't had a need to upgrade to any new models cuz these have been perfect for 3 straight years now.

I think 3G is being phased out and they won’t work when that happens. At least that’s my understanding.

Yes, Bigfoot was very upfront about this and that's why their cams were so cheap. I new their 4G options were available but I could buy twice the amount of cameras for the same cost otherwise. Bigfoot cams are all AT&T networks. According to AT&T there are so many legacy systems that use it's 3G that they have absolutely no sunset date on the horizon for this service. As to where Verizon I believe has already subsetted all their 3G stuff.
