Blackbeard Island, Ga

It pretty much means you need to anchor your boat (very well, I might add) at low tide or bring a boat that you don’t mind dragging up on the beach.

We just use 2 anchors bow and aft and they have a Jon boat to take you back, it’s really not that bad
The biggest deer killed this weekend was a 120# 9 point we may be able to squeeze you on one of our boats as well, if I get my stands hung early(you can 1 month prior to the hunt then we should have room. Heck if I like you enough I might even make 2 trips it’s about a 30 min boat ride.

I’ve been interested in a coastal island hunt for a few years. Didn’t realize they aren’t quotas! I will probably have a group going next year as well. I’m also from Valdosta too.

Sounds good, Sapelo has several quota hunts but the Blackbeard is show up and shoot.

Sapelo and Ossabaw island are quota hunts. The biggest difference between them and like Blackbeard island is they offer a ferry service. Sapelo and Ossabaw require you to pick an area. They are parked off in the map. If believe they are between 40-100 acres depending on the shape of the shoreline. They make a few rounds a day picking up and dropping off hunters. They have a walk in area also. Cumberland island is a quota hunt also but isn’t a draw hunt. It basically opens up for registration and if it lets you register and pay you are in if it doesn’t that means the quota has been filled.Cumberland is much like Blackbeard in that you come and go where and how you please but your not getting dropped off. They will pick up deer for you once you get the deer to the main rd. The hunt does get serviced by the state ferry. Blackbeard is the exception in that it is not quota. It’s not serviced by the ferry and it’s archery only.

Thanks Eric! That’s some good info I didn’t know. I have a boat I will be taking to the island. Isn’t Blackbeard the only one that is bow only?

Never mind I see you already answered that question! Lol, perhaps I should read the whole post.

Any of y’all going to the hunt next week?
@g2outdoors and I had plans to go when it was a December hunt. It just didn’t schedule well in mid November. Not to mention you’re hunting the smallest deer in the state post rut when bigger deer at home are rutting. It’ll still be a good hunt and nice weather.
