I've been bouncing around the idea of getting a crossbow for certain situations like hunting from a ground blind or just in tight quarters in general. I saw that Wicked Ridge just announced the Blackhawk 360 in a $399 package. That's pretty competitive with some of the non American made budget crossbow offerings. Obviously it's not going to have the bells and whistles of the $1k+ crossbows but it should drop a deer. Very tempting for next season. What say you?

For me I just like SIMPLE. When it comes to simple in crossbows I go Excaliber. You don't have to fool with cables, cams and timing and have a Xbow press to do something as simple as change a string. You can get a new Excaliber bow for not too much more than what you are talking about and you can find used ones cheaper. Excaliber warrantee is rock solid for life. Check out wyverncreations.com for new bows packages.

I like the looks of the MAG 340 and it's $550 on the Wyvern site.

Do a web search. I found a place called Pine Mountain Archery and got my Excaliber BD 380 a few years ago that was the previous years model and was MUCH cheaper than I could find it anyplace else. Pay attention to the scope offered on the bows. Get one that has lighted reticle.
I have learned with different things that it pays to just cry once. Paying for quality hurts but in the long run you usually save money because you have to fool with the cheaper stuff and usually are not satisfied.
