Boat advice

First fish in the new frontier. We are starting to get this thing figured out. I ended up putting a 50# sandbag in the front to help balance everything out. A new battery on the motor, and we were cruising!

Been using mine for several seasons now - I wouldn't trade it and I have no problem paddling it even in head winds at age 54. I do have a second, much lighter kayak that I drag through the woods to access remote creeks. I have drug it for over 1/2 mile at times and while it is not as stable as the nucanoe - sure is nice accessing chest deep creeks from areas others cant or wont.

I have a frontier 12 from nucanoe and love it. My wife and I have been fishing out of it weekly. I've been scouring craigslist, etc for a old town 119 for solo hunts, fishing etc. The weight difference between the two is substantial when pulling through the woods, etc. So I just ordered one at ****s, should be here in 7-10 days. I know as soon as I get it, I'll find 3 for sale!

Gheenoe project. Was hoping to have completed before the spring but as always, life keeps getting in the way. You guys looking for a skinny water, stable vessel the Gheenoe and Riverhawk brands are hard to beat. This was the standard 15' bench seat model but I was wanting more room to haul hunting gear and bow case all while keeping everything down low inside boat. Also making a front deck with storage underneath. YouTube some projects and the guys down around the flats have modified many to perfection for mainly fishing. When (if) I finish this thing I'll be sure to post up. Looking forward to using in the small rivers and huge swamps I mainly hunt. Normally I load a pirogue or canoe onto a 15ft aluminum boat and run river until entry into swamps. Now with the Gheenoe I am able to run river and paddle/pole and eliminate the hassle of hauling. Fun stuff!

One thing I hate about the nucanoe is the wheel kit. It mounts in the back and makes you lift the entire boat to move it. The wheels are small and the boat almost drags. And finally, you have to remove the motor and motor mount plate in order to add the wheels. So........

I built my own cart. I can balance the boat much better, and I can leave the motor attached.

You gotta love flexmation. You can build anything with that stuff....

Gheenoes are great. I found mine on CL for $200. Best investment I've made as far as boats go. Easily paddled or throw on the 8hp Nissan two stroke and roll at 20mph.

Hey guys,
I'm gonna be scouting some public areas that have creeks, lakes, swamps etc. I'm gonna need a kayak or canoe more than likely. I'm 6'3 and 230 so need a stable platform for sure. Gonna be hauling bow, pack, sticks, and hopefully deceased critters so gonna need a craft that can haul some stuff. I hope to get down to 215 by next elk season so may be less of me to haul hopefully. Thanks for any advice.
I have the Jackson Kilroy DT 16. I don' think you can find a better kayak for fishing an hunting. It is a sit inside style so you have a low center of gravity. I can stand up an fish in it an I'm 5'10" 260. Take a look at them I think you will like what you see.

i know this thread is old but for someone that has been looking at nucanoe frontier for like 2 weeks wanting to buy one it just fueled it more for me to buy one.

I have a bunch of small boats ,kayaks, canoes, etc. Got a c -tug kayak cart to pull them along. Best money spent imho. Good luck

I second the pirogue. Fits me, my brother and deer no problem. I have a Ron Chapman, super light and quiet.

One of the hardest questions due to the need involved but if I could only have ONE to hunt, fish, camp or haul gear from, I don't think you can beat a 16' fiberglass or aluminum canoe, it has the freeboard, the load capacity, fast, depending on the hull design very stable and you can repair glass easily. Mine is a wenonah adirondack 16' that I bought used for 150ish over 30 yrs ago. It's a generic all around paddler w/ hardly any rocker yet turn easy. I have had @ least 3 canoes in my life time and it is my favorite. I have hunted waterfowl from them where I could not get a 14' aluminum boat in and day tripped/camped since I was a scout @ 12.. With that said I have had several Gheenoes and they are awesome for hunting, not so much for paddling. A toller or an outboard/go devil is really needed. I still have my original wilderness system Manteo from 1988 the1st yr they came out and it's a great fishing boat that also I killed a bunch of teal/woodies from in FL & NY. Definitely not made to haul a deer. I love a pirogue too. Great little swamp boat that are super light that you can use just a push pole in those tight swamp situations. Great thing is you can just about locate a canoe in 10 min work, craig's or facebook marketplace has tons of um... cheap if you are not in a hurry..
