It doesn't look like I'm going to get any more groundhog hunting done, before our deer archery season opens in a couple of weeks.
I shot 24 with the M&P Sport 22LR and 8 with the Savage 22-250.
I just shot #32, for this year, at 187 yards with the Savage 22-250, using a 55 gr. V-Max at 3850 fps. The bullet never left her body....she ate it all. :cool:
Next year is going to be a serious challenge to beat 32 g-hogs.

That’s a lot of Chucks! I love huntin’ them “whistle pigs!” Didnt get out this summer for many reasons But I’m hoping to next year. This is one with the AR I took a few years ago.

I sold my Savage 17 earlier this year for the suppressed M&P Sport 22LR and it worked out better for the close shots around buildings. This year we had a lot of rain, which put the g-hogs on the high ground and in the farmer's outbuildings. Quite often I'd shoot 3 g-hogs in the same area, because they didn't hear the rifle. :)

I'm guessing that you have access to some DSA properties, if you're hunting in 2 weeks. I'll be out there too, as the ODNR extended the DSA area into eastern Allen County. The entire CWD thing is something that the ODNR will never get control of and it doesn't matter anyway. :rolleyes: Just the same, if it gets out there hunting a couple of weeks earlier, I'm good with that. Good luck out there!!!

Well, after January 1st of 2026, all ya gotta do is walk in a gun shop and buy one. :cool:

If nothing else, buy a linear compensator. It's basically a muzzle break with all the holes on the muzzle end of it. This projects all the sound/blast away from the shooter. I installed one on my 450 Bushmaster and it has made all the difference for hunting purposes.
Kaw Valley Precision Linear Compensator are very affordable at $60ish. Well worth it!!!

Not sure how I missed this thread so far, but I've been at war with the groundhogs on my 3 acre piece since I moved in 3 years ago. Suppressed rimfire guns (pictured Savage MKII-FVSR and Ruger MK3 with Volquartsen upper and internals with some form 1 kit cans I made back when that was an easier process) out the bedroom window turn the odds pretty decently in my favor, as they tend to appear inside 40 yards from the back of the house. If you're using sub-sonic ammo with your suppressors and shooting from your house, you'll notice a big difference if you make your shots by having the muzzle inside the house. If it's possible to have the muzzle 3' or more, inside the window frame, anything outside the house will never hear the shot. ;) Spec Ops Training.

I typically use CCI standard Velocity. In the pistol it's always subsonic, in the rifle it usually stays subsonic, but occasionally one will crack and surprise me. With the can, usually my wife and kids dont even notice from the next room. I definitely haven't shot from that far inside, but where I live it's not much of a concern. Im the quietest shooting neighbor.
 
I got a text from a farmer that I hunt on his property and he said he had another groundhog in his outbuilding. I wrote back, that I'd check it out. A short while later I pulled up at the farm, pulled out my Savage 22-250 and walked around to the side of the building. It was a short wait and then he popped up....and promptly checked out. ;)
The old sow that had created all of the problems in the first place. She was quite the "porker" too. :cool:
#35 for the year and #10 for the Savage. :) At this rate, there's no way I'll beat these numbers next year.
