Bow pull-up help

We had a pretty good thread going about this not too long ago. A bunch of us tried out 3/8 nylon webbing and it works great. Doesn’t get tangled like paracord, on Amazon for $10

7/64 amsteel with a retrieval hook from an old ratchet strap.
I have some reflective tape on the hook to orient me when using it in the pre-dawn darkness.

I also have a strip of reflective tape (different color) on a nite ize gear tie; one goes on my bow, one goes on my pack.
I don't like having the bow hoist rope attached to me when I climb because I have had it tangle on me and it was not good. Now I just climb, set up in the tree and drop the haul rope to hoist my bow and pack in two separate 'trips'. Super easy, and quiet so long as you don't have limbs in the way. The reflective tape is easily seen with a small red headlamp.

I switched to a Doyle’s this year after losing 2 figure 8 pull-up ropes on the the way to or from the stand (fell out of the small side pocket on my Tethrd pouch). The Doyle stays inside my pack with the Rope coming through a grommet in the bottom of the pack. Replaced the plastic Doyle attachment mechanism with a small biner. I wear my pack on my back while climbing up / down.

Don't overthink it. I just use 20' of cheap 550 cord. It gets attached to my saddle on the ground. At height, I put it in my tether pouch since that's empty (tether on tree). I try to figure-8 it, but it gets jumbled into a ball as often as it's packed away neatly.

Sorry, I for one am not trusting my new $1000 dollar Mathews VXR to paracord. Not happening!

I use a Doyle's gear hoist and with rope not strap. The manufacture states it has been tested to 190 pounds without breaking.

Nah. I love my Doyle's. I replaced the plastic attachment piece with a small biner and when I go to climb it plays out and when I come down it retracts. Nothing at all to mess with and works flawlessly.

dont like messing with the cordage on the ground, tried heavier 750 cord and has similar issues. If my Doyles breaks ill go back to cord but i love not messing around with the tangled mess when im down on the ground. I do use long amsteel on my sticks which adds to the mess of cordage on the ground.

i have not tried the hook method which seems nice, leaving my pack on the ground would be great when climbing late season, as my pack holds jacket and other cloths.

Sterling accessory cord in 5mm or 6mm, currently experimenting with 4mm. So far it's the 5mm that I prefer; no tangles to speak of, no noticeable stretch, and rated for 1100 lbs (I think), easier to grab to pull up and to control on the descent. Figure-8 wrap from elbow to palm, wrap around middle and loop through one side, then twist/fold in half and tuck into my dump pouch.

I'm just glad that with my saddle set up, I can climb with my pack and platform. I hated pulling up my bow and my pack all at once. It was of course much heavier and you had to be careful the cord wouldn't take off through your hands and give you a burn. Pulling up that light bow is a dream. You've got me thinking though, I'm attaching my bow to my cord using a medium sized nite ize s-biner. It is definitely the weakest link and could develop a crack that I don't see and it does lightly jingle on the bow as I climb. I have no fear of 550 pararcord breaking if I inspect it. The sheath alone can hold my bow. I will likely remove that S-biner and do something like go through the cam and then girth hitch to my stab or something. To the person that lost their figure 8, on the very end I have a loop and I use a small s-biner to secure it to my pack (as I mentioned earlier, I also stow the whole thing in my water bottle pocket on pack).

I just got 40 feet of 1.8 mm dynaglide from EWO. Used a scaffold knot to secure a small (non load bearing) biner wrapped in stealth stripping. Haven’t put it use yet, but I think it should work out just fine. Will also use it to pull my tether down post-rappel

I dropped my paracord pull rope when fumbling with a tangle yesterday... Seems like the Doyle's hoist is still the preferred alternative so looks like there's one in my near future.

Any issues on windy days or is the hook heavy enough to maintain control?

Yup - I hate when that happens.
YMMV but for what it is worth to you, one thing I learned is to leave the tag end of my hoist rope fairly long after I figure 8 the remainder of the rope. The tag end has a small loop on it, the other end has my hook; I NEVER mess with any potential tangles or wrap it back into a figure 8 until I am established in the tree on my tether -- and the tag end loop is fixed to my tether carabiner so it (in theory) would never fall on me again. You would probably laugh if you saw me set up because I am VERY deliberate in this process because it sucks to drop your haul rope!
