That doesnt sound right to me. That bow should be pushing a 425-450 grain arrow around those speeds. How long since the string and cables have been replaced and retuned?

Having a high FOC (Forward Of Center) weight, will improve penetration.

There's more that goes into having the higher FOC, like having a stiff enough spine arrow shaft to support having that weight forward. I find it easier to get the bow in tune with a heavy arrow setup, than a light arrow setup. Plus, the bow is quieter and the heavier arrows have more stable arrow flight.

My Elite HNTR33 has a 58# DW at a 29" DL. It shoots a 27.25" Gold Tip Kinetic 300 spine (10.4 gpi) with a 25 gr. insert, 100 gr. tip weight and 50 gr. of internal shaft weight and 2.75" vanes. This produces 175 grains at a 12% FOC and a TAW (Total Arrow Weight) of 490 grains.

My Elite Ritual 30 has a 57# DW at a 29" DL. It shoots a 27" Gold Tip HunterXT 300 spine (9.3 gpi) with a 100 gr. brass insert, 150 gr. tip weight and 3" feathers. This produces 250 grains at a 22% FOC and a TAW of 525 grains.

Both of these bows are sighted in to 50 yards, have perfect arrow flight with a bare shaft at 20 yards and are very quiet upon release. :)
I like pass-thru shots! Two holes bleeding are better than one. The percentages of finding a deer are 72% higher with a pass-thru shot, so says the United Blood Trackers group that uses dogs for deer recovery.
I agree. Every time I've had a pas through, I've had great blood and quick recovery.

I need to invest more time in the details of arrow builds and tuning.

Took it in back in the summer to get checked out. It shoots fine but it has the original string and cables and I just wanted it looked at for good measure. They said strings and cables look good. They shot it through the paper and it was about perfect.. they adjusted my peep and shot it through the chrono at 268fps. I think when it was brand new, with Maxima hunters 250's it was in the 280ish range if I recall correctly.

After they checked it out, I tightened the limbs up just a little: haven't shot it through the chrono since I did that, but its still very consistent.
