Broadhead test pack

Not everybody knows how to sharpen....would be good incentive for people to learn.
I agree completely that sharpening broadheads is an important skill that takes time and practice, especially with good, hardenened steel. I'm just not sure it's worth the considerable time and effort for heads we intend to shoot into targets. Seems like dull heads would work just fine (unless someone wants to test penetration). I totally get that you spent a lot of time sharpening that Grizzly. Seems like you could instead send another head from that package, if you haven't done them all yet. Wouldn't a rough factory edge (or a smoothed out but not quite shaving sharp edge) be adequate for a target-shooting test pack?

Received great feedback from a few folks and decided to start a sign-up/wish list. Hopefully more will be able to help fill in the blanks below. Let me know if you have a desire to participate! :)

COCs

Iron Will S-Series: @Red Beard

Grizzly Samurai: @Sziggy2.0
Grizzly 200: @Weldabeast
Grizzly Alaskan:
Grizzly Ashby 315:
Cutthroat:

Annihilator: @Navy Chief

Flappers
Rage: @Exhumis
NAP Spitfire: @slonstdy
The Maasai, Samurai, Alaskan, and Ashby heads on your list are by Grizzlystik, not Grizzly. The Grizzly 200 is by a different company (Grizzly Broadheads).

I can donate a 190-grain Grizzly with 75-grain steel insert (265 grain total) to the cause.

Also interested in getting on the list to try out the test pack after its assembled.

Totally adequate for targets....I understand what your saying.....I'm just saying if u get this test pack your getting possibly hundreds of dollars of stuff that we all worked hard to acquire and hopefully the person shooting them will take care of them and send them off in the same condition they recieved them.

I'd rather be the last guy along the line of guys and get a dull head than get a head that has been abused thru improper sharpening.

Seems like we might need to explicitly state that this test pack is not to be used for durability testing. No shooting the heads into hard surfaces to see which ones survive best! Buy your own heads for that.

Yep, you break em you replace em.

That's not the case for all of them. I don't expect the pos flappers I'm donating to last very long and I don't want anyone replacing them. They will prove why we're all making the switch to adult broadheads.
I'll bet that most of us have broadheads that we don't use any more, for all kinds of reasons, that we would happily donate to this traveling test pack. I have Wac 'em fixed blades in a range of weights (75 to 125 grain), and NAP Thunderhead 125s I'd contribute, for example, but I wonder if we would do better by staying focused on single-bevel adult broadheads. Let people compare them to whatever they currently shoot. I'm not sure how to define the limits of what should be included, though.

Do we want to solicit contributions of every broadhead out there and really grow a big selection, or stay focused on some more narrowly defined subset?

Might add the Abowyer heads to this list. They fit with the others.

I have left bevel Eclipse.
They are stamped as 125 gr but they weigh 134. They are glue-on but they are on 35 grain, aluminum ferrules so they are close to 170. They could be glued onto steel ferrules if you want more weight. They are not sharpened...that's how Eclipse sells them.
Is this a head you guys would like to have in the mix?

Sorry guys. Been moving furniture all day. Tried to quickly read through the conversation. A few thoughts...

I certainly don't mind adding all the broadheads yall can come up with to the test pack. :) However, at some point we may want to consider overall weight of the kit since we'll be mailing it back and forth.

Next, ABSOLUTELY NO TORTURE TESTS WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S DONATIONS. This should be a package that we open up, handle the merch, and compare each head side by side. If there's one or two of them that speak to you, screw them into your favorite tuned arrow and see how they fly. Definitely didn't think we'd be launching them into wood, cinder block, or even bone to see how they hold up.

Third, to sharpen or not to sharpen... Hey, I'll go along with whatever the general consensus is. But I'll tell you right off the bat that I'd be scared to death to try and resharpen someone else's donation. Maybe my story will change with a little experience, but so far I haven't had to hone those skills because I shot replaceable blades.

I have a G5 Montec 125 to throw in the mix if anyone is interested. Slightly bent tip but otherwise in good shootable shape.

I’m testing out some others and may have more to throw in once I’m done with those.

I'm building a heavier arrow and love this idea.
I have a couple Steelforce I could throw in.

@ericabbott had a great idea about writing your name (or SH handle) on whatever broadhead you send in for the test pack. This should ensure you get yours back when we're done.
