200 Massai and 200gr Samurai on grizzlystik 400 for a total 650 gr arrow with a 57 lb Darton pro 3000. Under 2 in group out to 50 yds using...

Looks like a great setup. Have you compared penetration of the rounded vs. straight edged blades? I wonder if there would be any difference in a foam target.

Yes i have shot both at ranges from 50yds down to 10 yds penetration in a rhinehart 18/1 ball target is about the same 8 to 10” cant wait for that 20 yd shot on a 10pt

The Massai and Samurai seem to penetrate about equally but we are talkin foam here guys!

I got the test pack on the mail today. Give me a day or two then I'll send it on it's way. Who is next on the list?

New to this thread, but interesting info, and a really cool idea. I was curious as to everyone's opinion on broadhead performance, not only in the test kit itself, but in real world hunting experience. Have you noticed shape or overall size (not weight) of the broadhead make differences to you, whether in flight or penetration? For instance, the rounded shape of the Bone vs the harder angles like the "standard" triangle shape? Length differences like the Grizzly vs the Eclipse? Vented vs non vented? I've watched a lot of broadhead tests, but curious as to real-world experiences from everyone. For those that donated broadheads, are you still shooting the same head that you donated, or have you moved to a different one, and why?

Physics prove that the straight edge with a 3:1 ratio penetrate best. They have a better mechanical advantage than rounded heads or short heads.

With good shot placement, nearly any head will probably kill a deer or other game animal. Its worked that way for me several times. But I've also embedded 3-blade broadheads in elk shoulder blades, and deer shoulder/brisket bones in front of the shoulder, without penetrating to the vitals within.

After reading several of the reports at ashbybowhunting.org, I've decided to give 2-blade, single bevel heads a shot. The concept of splitting bone with a twisting motion, to allow the razor-sharp, solidly built, 2-blade head to slip through makes sense to me. I haven't had a chance to test this on a critter yet, but I've tested a few varieties on foam targets and am currently going with 200-grain Cutthroats. Right now I'm favoring the cast/machined 1-piece heads (like Cutthroat and Bone) over the molded sheet metal models (like Grizzly and Zwickey).

I donated a G5 Montec and a Bone broadhead 200. I decided to go with a 2 blade single bevel which ruled out the Montec, and I didn’t like the curved blade on the Bone, figured it would be harder to sharpen. Decided on the Tuffhead 265, it was in the weight range where I was getting good arrow flight, and I liked the 3:1 ratio. I also tested out the Cutthroat 250, shot a high fence pig with it and got a passthrough. Also shot through deer leg bones with the Cutthroat, split the thickest part of the bone with no visible deflection and good penetration in the block target, with minimal damage to the broadhead. True test will come this fall on a live deer.

Sent to T.Clarke this morning. Thanks for passing this around. Great idea. Helped me decide what to buy.

Wanted to update everyone on the test pack. It looks like @T.Clarke added a 125 gr. Magnus Black Hornet Ser-razor four blade to the test pack! Which is great for me because I was looking into trying those at some point!! Last evening I shot all of the heads (with the exception of the Muzzy 100 and Montec (because I already own/have used them) and I also haven't shot the Ramcat or the Rage as I am not interested in mechanicals but I will say the Ramcat's seem very well built and heavy for mechs. Its a good option for somebody wanting to increase FOC and stay with a flapper. I shot the other heads at 10 yards into my BH target and I was surprised at how consistent the flight was with all of them. The heavier grizzly's I had to adjust my sight down a bit but the left and right was spectacular. For last night's testing I used my XX75 2213's cut at 27" with 2" blazers and all of the heads I tried at that yardage shot beautifully. I like aluminums because you don't have to be concerned with nock tuning the shaft like carbons. This provided me with some general understanding of the flight characteristics of the heads without any added issues with nock indexing. I especially liked the Zwickey, Magnus Delta Two Blade non-vented and the Grizzly's. Even with my aggressive Right helical blazers, the left bevel Eclipse flew great at 10 yards. The Grizzly's are beasts and very durable heads and at ten yards my arrows seemed to fly like darts. I will be trying a bit longer distance shooting with them over the next couple of days. I use hotmelt for my inserts and was considering heating up the shaft to orient the two blade heads horizontally but in fact several of them were perfect right out of the container. The ones that weren't, I didn't see any issues at 10 yards. That may change at longer distance shooting. I will donate a 100gr. NAP Hellrazor COC if anyone is interested in trying that. This head is similar to the Montec or the Muzzy One. I'll probably provide some additional information and notes after shooting at longer range. I also plan on trying them on some Victory and GoldTip Carbon's I have fletched up.

From what I've experienced once u have the bow "super" tuned u are able to shoot pretty much any weight (as long as arrow spine ok) so it's just an easy housing adjustment for the sight

The other thing I've experienced is as my arrow weight has gone up I keep taking pounds off my draw.....arrows seem to behave better and the act of drawing, holding, and shooting is much more pleasurable.....

Test pack is on its way to the next party.

I have attached my "quick and dirty, unscientific but still potentially relevant to some" broadhead flight testing results of several of the broadheads in the test kit at both 10 & 20 yards. I hope it is useful in some way. Thanks again Red Beard for a great idea and everyone else for providing the different types of heads. It was really neat being able to shoot so many different styles.
