So took a walk with the family this afternoon. Walked this high ridge that gets some people traffic, but not a lot. I noticed lots of tips off the small maple tree leafs and others were missing parts. Is this from deer browsing? Screenshot_20210821-133209~2.png

I am absolutely no expert in leaf tearing but I do have deer at my house that browse a tree line and I have examined it before to see what it can look like. I would say bugs is what you are seeing. From previous browse i've found whole leaves were gone or larger pieces of the leaf were gone. I look at those maple leaves and see a lot of smaller areas where it looks eaten, which looks like bugs.

I’d have to agree with it looking like bug damage instead of deer. Deer don’t have upper front teeth so they’re unable to delicately bite just the tips of leaves like that. If you ever get a chance to watch one eat browse up close, it’s mostly them pulling the leaves and grass up with their mouth like a goat would versus biting it
