Bullman Pioneer steps

I didn't even see there were directions and threw away the paperwork. What tool and method do they recommend?
I’ll take pics and post when I get home. I think they suggested a file if I remember right. I didn’t do that, I opted to just wrap with camoform tape. Also helps keep the strap a little tighter through the slot

I ordered ten pioneer steps today! Hopefully they come sooner than later so I have time to mess around before October. I’ll be sure to give some feedback once I receive them.

I like mine a lot. With camoform tape through the slots and around the whole piece the strap sits in it tight and noise is dampened a bit.

not sure why it is blurry, it’s not on my phone. But it does say “filing is discouraged. Only file if a burr is suspected.”

Okay, so I read the instructions as bigcat suggested and found out that I had unintentionally done something correctly for a change!

Upon closer inspection of the remainder of the dozen steps I received, I was pleased to find that most had already been lightly filed at the upper end of the slot and a few had file marks at the bottom of the slot. It looks like I'll only need to do a little touch-up here and there to dress up any remaining sharp edges. No need to break out the Dremmel for that, especially since it would require a trip to the hardware store for a proper bit.

Haha to be fair I didn’t read them until after I set them up on my platform and strap

For those of you who have ordered some and received them, what was turn around time on delivery?

I placed my order late in the day on Saturday, 8/21, order shipped 8/24, and received 8/27. Pretty fast service I'd say. These steps are very nice so I'm real pleased with my purchase.

Awesome, thanks guys. I was just wondering how much time I might have with them before the opener. I assume 2-3 weeks then! I’ve got other means to get up a tree, but just in case I like these more that should be alright.

I received mine Saturday and was able to try them. With 8-10 steps I was happy with my “hunting height”

Threading all the straps on the way up the tree took a little time, but not bad. Coming down was much faster. My only complaint, and it has nothing to do with the steps……I noticed it’s a lot more stress on my knees compared to sticks/one sticking. I assume thats because I can use more upper body strength with a stick.

OK, I broke down and ordered some.
Should be easier to pack compared to the treehopper steps and I will save a few oz.

I would NOT do what Bullman advocates for at least his original steps, which is to set two up at a time (belly and chin height) and then take two steps. You save a small amount of time his way, but 1. you can't use your knee as a consistent reference and 2. you are in the same position for too long. I do one step at a time and advance my tether each step (so I keep slack to a minimum) and I'm not with most of my weight on one foot for too long.

When the Pioneer steps came out I did not understand why they were $9.49 each and the Squirrel Steps were $26.99 each.
I found out that the Squirrel Steps are machined and the Pioneer Steps are extruded.

Shawn at Bullman Outdoors said it took a large investment for the extrusion die and the steps were ordered before the large increase in aluminum hit.
So, if you are considering ordering some of these steps, I suggest you do it soon, because when these are gone, the next batch may be more expensive.

Part of the added stress may come from where you have your foot turned out some in order to climb with these compared to sticks which put your foot in a more normal position.

I open my hand flat and use my arm as a cubic measurement.set one at the knee.and then a cubic to the
Second step.typicaly a cubic then to the third step. Three at a time if the tree isn't to wide.sometimes I set 2 and advance then three again randomely so my weight is not on the same foot again.

It's easy to take people the wrong way via text. That's partly why I write novels on here, because I want my full intent to be known.
[/QUO
By a strange coincidence I also tend to text large volumes of info for the same exact reason as text messaging lacks all ability to inflect intent or meaning and leaves to much to often open to interpretation.
My friends complained my text messages were much to long even though they were the equivalent of a few minuets of reading, so I shortened them to the minimum and quickly my meaning and intent was misunderstood as to be less than positive.

I also are rather baffled at how many people feel compelled when a mistake has been made in a persons post say mislabel or mis-number a items model number to make rather severe negative or even insulting comments specifically targeting a person when that person has not in any way insulted them first place.
