Cheaper to buy them from lone wolf if you have to buy the swage tool. But hey, it’s a tool! I like tools, I want more tools! I’ll use it for other purposes.

1/8in Coated wire rope was $7 for 30ft
Stainless eyes were $2.80 from amazon.

I like them much better than a CAYG aider. No hassle, easy to climb, flex out and open off the tree for easy foot placement. Fold up on the stick for easy packing.

Thanks for posting, was thinking of trying the cable aiders... Now I guess I have to

Nice and they won’t blow around in the wind, the reason I hate fixed aider.

I went the easy route and bought them from LWCG. Never have been an aider guy, and may not stick with these. But they are WAY better than a webbing or rope aider. Love them so far practicing and messing around in the yard.

@swampsnyper - Steel is a lot heavier than webbing - but I get that there are advantages with respect to staying open and being able to bend or shape the loop. Are you a 1-stick guy or multi-stick? If multi-stick, are you going to add this type of aider on all of your sticks? Finally, approximately how much weight does this add to the system you carry into the woods?

I don’t one stick. I thought about it and made another cable Aider on the top step facing up to use as a handle to pull my step up so I didn’t have to climb back down to get my step before proceeding up. But it’s still too much fiddling like other one stepping methods. It’s just easier to put 3-4 sticks on the tree. I didn’t weigh the cable aiders. I can carry 5 more pounds without noticing much difference. It’s all about packability and ease of deployment. My elk pack load weighs about 45#s. 5#s more makes a difference in that situation, but not in a light whitetail pack.

I'd love to get a weight also, The steel looks like it would be much easier to use with how stiff it is and how it hangs. I'm sure over time the way it hangs could really change. Climbing down is a bonus too.

Lone wolf might have it on their site. I’ll try to remember to get a weight in my DIY cable aiders tonight.
As far as the shape of them, if you bolt them to the stick relaxed, they hang down level. If add a twist to the eye terminals when you bolt them, the bow out. I’m sure if they relax with time, you can just add another twist. I don’t see them doing that unless weight stay on them for some time.

Do they come with the required hardware too?

Do the eye hooks just squeeze on like electrical ones or do they mount a different way? Just wondering how they will hold up?

I made some and can’t decide if I like them vs a movable webbing aider. Cables are definitely quicker but were more of a hassle when packing my helium’s together. Might just need a better packing routine.

You need a swaging tool for wire rope. Electrical plier crimps probably won’t support much weight. I don’t even know what the swaging tool I have supports. I know there are different swaging tools. Do at your own risk and research.

I'm looking to do this to my cut down lone wolfs. I've never used an aider, but love the idea of the extra height. How short did you cut those down and how high can you get with 3 or 4 sticks with the aiders?

I cut them so my steps are 19in apart. Thats what works for me for step height with winter clothes and still short enough stick to fit on my bag compactly. I made the aider length to be equal in step height as my other steps and I space he stick so that every step is close to the same distance. You could stretch everything out further or shorter. Its all personal preference. With the aider, I'm getting about the same heights as a full length stick would get me. I never measured heights but each step up is about 19in.

@DanO any plans to have supplies for cable aiders? Looking at getting some in the next couple months and would rather order from you than amazon.
