A few years ago I got a deal on a Thule goalpost to help haul my canoe. It supports the back of the canoe. I have been using foam pads on top of the truck cab to support the front of the canoe. My canoe is very heavy. It’s a real pain to load and unload from the truck. I wanted to keep my Undercover tonneau. So, I came up with this design and built it with stuff I already had laying around. The Undercover has a snow weight rating of 400 pounds. So the canoe weight should be fine. I strapped the rack down with ratchet straps. The front two straps drop between cab and bed and hook in holes in the frame. Very secure. They are held in tension by a strap going to the Thule goalpost. I tried the system out Sunday evening and it worked fine. Very easy to handle by myself. The rack is made with notched joints that are glued and screwed. Only exception is the two where you see bolts. This allows me to break the rack down in two pieces for storage.
