Canoe rebuild

I got it all sanded down to 120 grit again....I dunked my phone over the weekend so no update photos til get another one. Just going to buy some oil based paint and give it a coat or 2 and get it back together... Ready to take it out

Did the gel coat fail, or just not have a smooth surface finish?

Seems like you could cut it smooth with the DA in half a day and polish it! So close!

t to head up to the store and buy some paint.... Hopefully get finished up this weekend.... Planning on hunting sunday.... Never enough time

Horrible selection at the hardware store...... The only earth tone oil based flat paint they had was turd brown. Not what I was hoping for but I guess a 16ft turd is better than none at all

That’s the color of the water down there anyway so it’ll be good camouflage!!

Tip and roll. Good candy stripe roller vertically, followed immediately after with a high quality bristle brush perpendicular to the roller pattern to kill the lines and release any bubbles. Always maintain a wet edge on the brush.

I concur. My old fiberglass which might be a Mohawk has those aluminum gunwales and we have to cover them with pipe insulation on our canoe hunts. Leaning your shotgun against the aluminum is noisy and scratches your gun up.
2" clear vinyl hose works good. Slit one side and slip over, really sound proof. Truck Cap Tape works well too. 2" wide and stick over top of gunwhale

So your saying roll from top to bottom and brush strokes going down the length?

Coat 3 applied.....I have off work till Jan 2 so I should have it finished up here in the next couple days. I didn't have another roller nap so hand painted the last coat.. Doesn't look the best but I don't really care.... Going to get scratched up anyway....
