Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, I couldn’t seem to find it. I’m currently working on making my bridge and tether, and I’m getting a little overwhelmed with all the options for carabiners. Which ones do y’all use and why?

Just got a grivel plume (thanks @Nutterbuster) and I love it. Small, light and can't wait to hang.

Wanted a locking type, didn't care for autolockers, hated forgetting to lock the screw gates.

So for the Grivel is perfect in my opinion.

I just switched all mine to Cypher Firefly II’s. It’s one of the smallest/lightest screw gates you can get and it’s not a ridiculously bright color like most. And only 6.20 on backcountryGear

I don’t remember what mine is but it doesn’t have the screw gate, it has a quarter turn lock that is spring loaded and I like it a lot. I don’t know the proper terminology for it but someone here will.

I know the mechanism you’re talking about, it’s the same mechanism Hunter specialties uses on their lifelines

Believe that's called an autolocker.

If you’re going to go with the wire-gate style like a Plume, make sure it’s a double-gate. Don’t want that rope twisting on the basket of your biner and unlatching your wire-gate. You invoked @Nutterbuster; he just did a video on this a couple weeks back, and I noticed @DanO is now selling the double-gate Plume.

Thanks for the tip, if DanO is selling them then that pretty much makes my decision for me. I’d always rather give my business to someone from here if I can!

I use key-hole style latch instead of the hook style. The hook style seems to get snagged on stuff all the time. And snagging on stuff is not just an annoyance. Clothes or other items that get snagged can remain in the "jaw" of the carabiner which prevents the gate from fully seating closed. Carabiners don't achieve the load rating until the gate is fully seated.
This thread is helpful. https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/examples-of-dangerous-carabiner-loading.2599/

Also, if you use a Ropeman, you may want to check how it works with a carabiner before you buy. The cross-section of some carabiners are shaped in such a way that the Ropeman won't lay quite right. Seems like the round cross section carabiners tend to work better with Ropeman 1. Im not saying other 'beeners won't work with Ropeman 1 because I haven't tried them all, but I like the round ones better.
