Carrying handgun while in saddle

When I hunt, I usually bring a handgun with me, which is allowed here in SC. I normally carry IWB or OWB. I realized carrying this way would be near impossible in a saddle. How are others carrying while in a saddle that don't get in the way?

I'll 3rd the HPG chest rig. Already owned and abused before I ever found this money pit. But It's what I use in the woods period. Whether I'm in a saddle or a ladder stand, it's on my chest.

I have a backpack holster that goes on my pack strap. Essentially puts it on my left chest for a perfect cross body draw like I'm doing the pledge.

Occasionally, I use a sling pack and for those hunts I will just throw it in the pack.

I've tried a drop leg and the belt loops pinched too much from the saddle.

Pocket carry in a cargo pocket of my pants, making sure the leg straps aren’t in the way. There are no dangerous animals where I hunt so I don’t feel the need to pack a big gun

I use an IWB on the waist belt of my lumbar pack normally.
On 6 NOV I will change to a bandolier DIY holster for my new pistol, a Magnum Research .44 since that is opening day of gun season in Croom WMA here in central Florida. I am super excited and thankful the OP for posting this to keep my excitement high!

I have a holster attached to the molle on the bottom of my bino harness if pistol hunting. Otherwise put away while actually up the tree

I pocket carry or use the chest rig from Kenai. Great holster rig.

I carry AIWB in and out of the saddle. My biggest issue is dealing with saddle sag from having 2 roll up pouches on the saddle. I don;t have an issue with the firearm in AIWB while in the saddle though, although I do try to be more mindful of access to it.

I’m also AIWB all the time. I took me a couple of years after I first got my CCHP to figure out what worked for me. I went through 5 handguns and who knows how many holsters before I found the best solution for me, which is something that I will actually carry all the time. I can climb, hunt, rappel, hike, drive, ride my bike etc without having to change my holster or routine.

hill people gear as others have said or Helikon- Tex Numbat

I use both depending on what pistol I’m carrying. HPG I have the heavy recon model and carry Glock 40 10mm (6 inch barrel). In the Helikon I’m carrying a Sig 365. The bigger HPG gets in the way a bit more obviously. Helikon looks more understated and not as tactical so that’s my preferred method when bike riding, not in the actual wilderness. Both are great packs and I prefer it to having something in/on my waist when hunting or hiking.

Another perk is storage for small emergency items we may need always within reach in the tree- extra sling, carabiner, cell phone etc
