So I just got this new iPhone and I’m curious what y’all use for a phone case in the woods. I’m looking for something that’ll handle rain and a fall from the tree if possible. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

I have used a life proof, body glove and otter box. The body glove was $10 and worked ok but did have some flaws. I think the life proof was the best all around. Whatever one you get, make sure to take your phone out and clean the vents every once in a while.

MagPul “field case” all the way - low bulk, not tacky / not slippery, and has those great grippable MagPul ridges. Won’t let phone survive a dunk or a drop from a tree, but for me it’s all I need.

I'm also interested in this. My otterbox muffles conversations too much on my iPhone XR. However, when you do an internet search for phone cases, you get 1,000,000 hits from super cheap companies and the decent companies are lost in that mix.

Does the lifeproof case muffle the phone? I remember the original lifeproof had that complaint.

I used my first lifeproof for 3 years before I had an issue. I called and they replaced it for free. I used that case for about 2 years then got a new phone. Cleaning helps out a ton.

I've got an Otterbox but not their biggest or most stout one. I've always had a case like that and it has protected me from mishaps. I also use this tether from my phone to my HYS strap. I like having the phone in front of me and not having to fish it out of a pocket. Minimal movement to send a quick text, and if I need the phone out of my hands quickly I can do so without having to feed it back into a pocket.

That’s a pretty slick addition! I’m gonna have to grab that too!

Out of curiosity, dot you leave the phone dangling on the tether from the HYS strap? It seems like the weight of the phone would stretch the tether to its full length.

I do leave it there. Does not stretch it much. When you reach for the phone there’s plenty more stretch in the tether to allow you to work and it retracts when you let it go.

Awesome! I ordered one last night so I can take it out this weekend. I’m stoked to give it a whirl.
