What are you running? In scouring craigslist and other options, any thoughts or tips on what to look for?

If you're buying used, buy a pro level saw. Homeowner saws are throw away these days...

Mac 850 super is my go to saw. Also run a Jonsered 920, a Homey Super xl 925 and a Sachs Dolmar 113 for the small stuff.

The Mac with the 32" bar on it, cut that ash like butter:

Kobalt 40 CORDLESS.
I can pack it in deep, throw it in my truck. I love that little thing.

Stihl MS 250 with 18 inch bar. LOVE it. Built a house last year. It was half and acre with over 50 crappy trees. The MS 250 made toothpicks of all but 5 trees that were kept. Its over 6 years old and it still impresses me how well it starts and never fails me. Growing up on a farm it seemed like there was one thing we could always count on when it was need and that was the chainsaw not starting. Must have went through 6 to 10 saws growing up and now that Dad has seen my Stihl he has had zero issue also.

Yes. The LiON batteries have come a long way but you don't get the runtime like you do out of a gas powered one. Performance wise the smaller ones perform similarly to their gas powered counterparts but beyond a certain size performance degrades considerably.
Yup. LiON tools make sense for me if you don't use them a lot of heavily. Carb motors don't like to sit in a corner for 8 months and then just pop out and do a 5 minute job and go back in the corner.

I started my MAC last week after sitting for 2+ months in 2 pulls, and it was 10 degrees out. Well maintained and tuned equipment should start and run regardless. Using ethanol free gas helps too.

Oh, and batteries HATE the cold.

Not arguing with ya, cause you're right. Still love my little 'lectric limb vibrator.

Motor isn't the issue....ethanol fuel kills anything you let sit.....ethanol draws moisture from the air and fubars. The battery ones have their place
