Cheap Stuff that Gets the Job Done

You really are a lost soul. Six ?

One for the squirrel vest, one for the hunting pack, one for the ambush straps, one to stay in the car, one in my life jacket, plus a few spares.

When you hunt 40,000 acres of flat palmettos and tupelo, you learn the hard way what it feels like to not know where you are. It's not a pleasant feeling

I guess I have to try that to go along with all my other sharpeners!!! I’m a sucker for a good sharp blade

I had a couple really rough Zwickey Eskimo double blades that I could not get an edge on. I had to press pretty hard at first but after less than 10 passes it was getting sharper and a handful of light passes after that I was shaving arm hair.

For those building their own arrows, I picked up a 3D printed arrow squaring device off of Ebay for 7 bucks and it does an perfect job of squaring up after I cut them with my less than perfect arrow saw. Saved me a bunch of money compared to the $40 investment in most other ASDs

Pert near anything milsurp. Military grade gear is about the most durable stuff you can get especially for the cost. Recently I scored an usmc ible frame pack for 100$, its capable of 125+ lbs carry load that I can personally vouch for lol

100% on this. I run Canadian military surplus fleece pants are killer - warm and durable. Anyone looking for a knapsack and is considering expensive hunting bags is off target. I run either the Canadian pattern 82 Rucksack or the US bag shown below which is huge, quiet and comfortable - I got mine for $50 at a surplus shop frame and harness included.

Man, I've wanted to buy those pants for a long time now, but I can find nothing on how to read those sizes, I seriously have done a bunch of digging and yet to have found consistent information of sizing....... that said they are relatively readily available on ebay for dirt cheap! Just wish I could figure out sizing....

I bought one when I ordered some broadheads from Simmons. They sell them on their site to use with their heads. Seems to do a pretty good job for the price. Also have sharpened other random things around the house.

Paracord Pack/Gear Hanger - aka Poor Man's HYS Strap:

Daisy chain of paracord tied with uneven loops. Girth hitch it to the tree with the end loop, hang pack at desired height. Uneven loops stay open to hang accessories. (Range finder, grunt call, etc) Packs up nice and small...

Modified HME Accessory Hook Belt - Bow or Gun Hanger:

Cut strap ~ 4" from the buckle. Create loops on each side of cut using tri-glide. Add cheap carabiner for quick attachment. (No more feeding strap thru buckle.)

Throw strap around tree, hook carabiner into opposing loop, move hooks to desired location, tighten. Packs up nice and small, deploys quickly. Hang bow on one side, quiver on the other. Use Poor Man's HYS Strap (See Above) to hang pack and accessories.

I'll check mine and give you some info. I have bought them at the surplus store here and the guy there just knows what size I need - I never paid attention.

Gerber STL 2.0 folding knife. $12 - $15.

Super slim little drop-point folding knife. 3 inches long closed, 2 inch blade, really good steel that sharpens well and holds an edge. Clever minimalist locking mechanism. I carry mine every day and never notice it in my pocket because its only 1/4 inch wide. I've field dressed several deer and other critters with it, and completely boned one deer with it when I didn't have my fillet knife with me in the field.

Speaking of which...the classic wooden-handled Rapala fish fillet knife is a lightweight, inexpensive tool that works well for boning all manner of big game. Easy to carry in your day pack. The soft steel doesn't hold a razor edge for long, but it will easily reduce a deer to a bag of boneless meat on one sharpening, and is quick to resharpen as necessary. I've also used them for boning bears, moose, mountain goat, elk, caribou, and pronghorns.

And it's time for the wet blanket, and forgive me if this was already mentioned, but how much of this cheap stuff that works comes from China?
We gotta get off of our addiction of buying stuff from them.
Not being holier than thou. I have lots of Chinese crap. But I now think twice about what I buy. Time to wean.
