Cheap Stuff that Gets the Job Done

Along with a whistle, I'll carry one of these with me on every hunt this year. I've always had a good sense of direction, but after getting turned around in some woods for about an hour earlier this spring, I've decided a compass is a must.

My phone wasnt accurate enough for me to really tell where I was going, and a quick compass check i would have been out in 5 minutes.
I've been carrying the compass on the left for about 5 years now in the pocket of my turkey vest. Three years ago it somehow switched its poles and really threw me for a loop on a long walk back in after dark. Luckily I knew pretty much where I was and realized the error before it became too much of a problem. Since then I always make it a point to verify its still pointing opposite before heading out in a new area where I might actually need it. I asked for a new compass for Xmas this year (the one on the right).

I had a pistol on a chest holster do something similar. Everywhere I turned, north was to my left because the needle was pointing at the steel in the gun. Just something to throw out there:

if your compass is doing something weird, sit it on the ground and/or take everything large and magnetically response off your body (is ferromagnetic the word?).

are those this?

those look pretty decent, i guess i went with a ball one because of the self leveling ability of a ball style compass.

If its not its the twin sister. I used to use ball compasses exclusively but I've found they have a tendency to dry out over time. I also don't look at them often enough to notice it was dried up until I needed it. While they're not as cheap as the ball compasses these seem to survive a little better for me . . .unless you count pointing the opposite direction as a problem in a compass. :tearsofjoy:

Wow, I wasn't expecting to see a vagina on SH today. Really wasn't expecting to see one as a "coin purse". What a way to start the morning :tearsofjoy:
I fill it with gauze and pour some golden estrous in it. What I do with it after that is none of your damn business.

Any time I go into the plumbing department at work I look in the garbage and pull out the empty Teflon tape rolls....refill with flagging tape and u have a nice dispenser .... Pretty sure I posted somewhere on here but this belongs in this thread

Great idea! That stuff is hard to manage once I start to unroll it.

Have you never read Fred Asbells books where he talks about deer walking? It is basically putting your heel down with your toes pointed up and after your heel settles in kinda pop your toe down to make it sound like a 4 legged animal is walking and the stick, or in my case the recurve, acts like your toe and makes it where you can walk a little faster! The Asbell way he uses it on the last part of the stalk because it is so slow going!! I hope I explained it well enough! But do try it because it really does work!!
So what's the cadence like? ... you tap the ground (with your bow or stick) immediately after each footfall?

I just bought this "knee tree pad" from Academy to test out. Much cheaper than even a DIY solution. It already has a strap to attach to the tree.

I was talking with peeps at saddlefest while wearing my vest....as I was shooting the breeze I could see peeps keep taking quick glances at the vajaja on my shoulder but nobody said anything....I'm trying so hard to keep a straight face but inside I'm in tears....

I hope @MattMan81 isn't so wholesome that people can trick him into carrying their drug paraphenalia around for them.
You knows whats funny. I didn't look at that picture close enough to see the extra stuff in it. The Yooper version is an old chew can with a mirror in the lid. But I couldn't find a picture of that. Oops.
