Pipe and cigar talk

I must WARN you.....Smoking Cigars is a sickness much like bowing hunting or saddle hunting. LoL If you like the Sweet Janes try the whole Deadwood series. Fat Bottom Betty, Crazy Alice, and the Leather Rose. All are nice sticks. I very rarely smoke a sweet/infused cigar any more. My favorites are Tabernacles by Foundation Cigars, Oliva Serie V Melanio Marduro, The Judge by My Father Cigars, and Liga Privada T52 by Drew Estates. I have close to 300 cigars in the humidors. Also if you haven't checked out CigarsDaily.com do yourself a favor and do it. Their shipping, products, and customer service are the best. They also have a YouTube channel were reviews different cigars just about everyday.

I picked up a Kristoff medium sampler at my local shop the other day. Only had the Habano in robusto size so far . It was nub worthy.

I’m big into cigars and it all started just like you - one of my friends handed me a good cigar back in the day.
You can go on Cigarsinternational.com or Cigar.com - these are mega online stores that sell everything cigar. You can purchase singles, 5 packs or boxes. The nice thing is you can mix & match to try new things.
I personally love Perdomo cigars, and I agree with what someone stated earlier about Connecticut’s - these are mellow cigars w/ a creamy, caramel smoke. Pairs well with whiskey.
Rocky Patel Edge, Olivia, San Cristobel cigars are all outstanding.
In the beginning I subscribed to Cigar Aficionado - learned a lot.
Every want to talk cigar, just ask….

Gotta jump in on this thread for sure. Been partaking in cigars since my honeymoon and really appreciate a good smoke.

What really spoiled me is when the shop down the street from my workplace - for reasons I cannot comprehend - decided to discount and sell off a couple of boxes at a time....a sizable stock of a wide selection of figurados of Padron 1964 and 1926 series. That they had held in reserve for 7-10 years (verified by box codes...and by taste). These are already some of my absolute favorite widely available smokes...and with substantial age on them they were elevated to yet another level. I was able to get in on a few a week for much of that summer...but that honey hole is gone. I want to say that a few of the 1964 natural pyramides from that haul were absolutely the best smokes I've ever had. I'm ruined.

How long is a cigar good for? Do they get better with age? I have some in my basement. Been in a hummidor box for 12 years or so? Maybe longer. I think I purchased them before I got married. There not dried out. Should I pitch them? Or give them away?

If you’re only keeping a few cigars at a time, a ziploc or Tupperware dish that’s “humidity controlled” will be fine. If you get serious and need a good basic one, PM me and I’ll send you mine (I don’t smoke any more).
As for cigars to try, I recommend Connecticut cigars, as they’re lighter and generally smoother and easier for newbies than some of the more robust, flavorful cigars. If you can find them, get the Rocky Patel Vintage 1999–that’s a GREAT beginner cigar, and it would be the first one I’d reach for these days if I smoked.
Here’s another idea for you: check out pipe smoking. If you smoke regularly, it’s much cheaper than buying nice cigars, and your local shop probably carries some great blends that you can try. Also, you can buy a pipe with a filter, which is a bit “cleaner”/healthier.
Finally, bourbon and scotch pair the best with tobacco (IMHO), and can really enhance the smoking experience.
Hope this helps!
What about adding a couple pieces of rice to the dish to absorb moisture? Thoughts?
