Climbing with the Shorty Stick

Huh?
1. I’d have to see
2. I don’t see what the benefit of a platform place 20” higher when you are already one sticking. There’s no limit to how high you can go. Plus separate platform is plenty more weight.
3. Yea
4. Maybe, maybe not. I was thinking of placing it on the bottom.

Guess I’ll have to just make my own:)

I was considering it, but thought of 4 down sides:
1. The downward slope of the scout could bust ya right in the shins when climbing
2. Your platform is only 8 inches above your step. A seperate platform can gain you 18-20 inches above the step.
3. The scout only drops this configuration by 2oz, and only increases the platform size by 2 inches in depth and .5 inches in width, although it does provide much more surface area inside of those parameters.
4. The scout configuration would force you to drop your cam cleat or button by an inch, putting you center of the stick or possibly below.

@always89y I haven't used a cam but plan on adding one to my single step sometime this summer after seeing some of the setups some are using.
I remember someone saying that they use their foot to gain some reach to "kick" the rope out of the cam so they don't have to reach all the way down to the cam to undo it. If you could somehow attach the rope to the pull-up handle after setting it in the cam so that you are grabbing both at once would this allow you to extend your reach?

Quick thought. What if you dropped the outermost top double step down an inch or two. It would give you the 45° boot support while tethered and leaning at Hunt height. Plus would distribute the pressure points on the bottom of your boots a little better. I only say this because no one hunts at 90° to the tree. All the pressure on the boot is still going to be on the outside double step. Just my one cent. Not worth much.

Possibly! The only difficulty you might have is, you still need to reach teh cam cleat to pull the rope out, otherwise you get a pretty loud "snap" if you yank the rope out.

Awesome idea! Back to the drill press!

Tried my 7" stick out today, it worked good. I seen what @always89y was talking about with the sticking pulling off the tree but I was able to wiggle it a little and it would square up, plus putting weight on it would set it too. Its a pretty awesome little setup. 3 moves got me between 12-15 feet depending on tree size.

Look awesome! How for down did you put the button?

The button is 3" from the top of the stick. The button is 2.5" from the top standoff and 3.5" from the bottom standoff
