Climbing with the Shorty Stick

I need to add a handle like yours to my stick. Might be able to get some more height per set.

Easy to do. 1/8 wire loop is what I'm using.

I like the retractable one you made for the helium stick. If it’s not hassle, mind posting some close pics of the attachment to get a better idea? I’m using the top of my shorty as a platform and would rather be able to push the handle down at height.

Did a quick video of the short stick/1 stick climbing method.

Man, you beat me to it. Great toe hook. Still loving the modified hawk helium you gave me. I am going to add a grab cable this weekend. Even when I toe hook it, I still can't quite reach it sometimes.

Sure. I just bent over the last 1/4 inch on either side of a 1inch fender washer and used that as a clamp.

Got my mini stick assembled and ready to slap on the tree. Wire loop probably could be longer but we'll see how it does

Man, That looks awesome. Great job. If it had a 45° mini foot rest coming off the bottom double step, it would be good on the feet after a few hours. Just my 1 cent. Not worth much. LOL

Oh, or something like the WE purch that could be attached at hunt height. Man, I wish I could build stuff.

I know what you mean, I've wondered about slapping a scout on the bottom in place of the step.

Who is going to be the first to slap a scout on a shorty stick? I’d do it if I had the stuff. What a package!

BTW, With this last version, I have come to the realization that a platform on a short stick provides no advantage over a 20 inch or full size stick in the same configuration ( for me). While more packable, the weight savings are minimal (at least on this configuration) and the loss of the ability to put the platform higher negates the packability advantage. With a separate platform, you can place the platform a full step higher than the stick.

I was considering it, but thought of 4 down sides:
1. The downward slope of the scout could bust ya right in the shins when climbing
2. Your platform is only 8 inches above your step. A seperate platform can gain you 18-20 inches above the step.
3. The scout only drops this configuration by 2oz, and only increases the platform size by 2 inches in depth and .5 inches in width, although it does provide much more surface area inside of those parameters.
4. The scout configuration would force you to drop your cam cleat or button by an inch, putting you center of the stick or possibly below.
