Firstlite has their whitetail sale going on. I own a couple of their pieces that I use early season. For cold weather in the past I’ve really just bundled up layers topped with a cheap Amazon Mossy Oak fleece lined setup. That did the job however I hunted from the ground or a climber. I didn’t find the bulk a big deal. Now that I’m in a saddle I’m looking to get some maneuverability while staying warm. I’ve also lost a bit of weight and all my cold weather stuff is just very large on me. I like the idea of bibs but I’ve never owned any. I have just run pants with suspenders. Is there any downside to bibs in the saddle? I was eying the “core” bibs and jacket or just the core jacket with the lined 308s but I don’t think they are wind proof like the core. I live in CT and hunt til the end of December so it may get into the teens at times. It may also never go below 30. If anyone has any recommendations I’d appreciate it.

I loathed bibs for a long time in the stand. The reason may be weird, but the suspenders constantly pushing on my traps would always give me a monstrous headache. Bibs in a saddle are the best because the saddle lifts the bibs up and takes the weight off the suspenders, and also prevents back drafts

I also agree bibs FTW. Trousers don’t fall down and no back drafts. I can also go with a lighter upper layer or just a heated layer.

I cannot speak to wearing the bibs in a saddle, but I can say I really like the Core line of outerwear. I originally bought the Solitude series which has become the Core series. In my experience they run small. FYI, if you shop Scheels, they will price match First Lites sale price and add the shipping cost. I needed to replace the large sized Solitude bibs with the XL Core series, and I had more than enough Scheels gift cards from using my Scheels card to buy the bibs which put a big smile on my face as I was checking out. :sunglasses:

What region do you hunt? Just curious what temps you’re running them in.

I love the First Lite stuff, IF they fit! Unfortunately, their sizing doesn't work for me in most outerwear...
I have a set of their pants(obsidian I believe) and a kiln 1/4 zip already. They were snug when I bought them however now they fit nice so I’m hoping that using those as a reference will help me.

I am in Indiana. I will use the bibs when we get in the low 30's or cold temps with heavy winds and the coat when we get down below 30's / heavy winds. If I wear the bibs when walking in & out, I have to have the bibs as unzipped / opened up to ventilate as much as possible otherwise I would sweat too much. If I had a long walk, I would just carry them to the tree then put them on. The coat is a no go to wear while walking to and from for me.

Do any of you guys have any experience with first lites quarter zip furnace shirt?

I have a few first lites things and in overall pretty happy with them, just curious if anyone can tell me anything about the furnace stuff.

I like the furnace pants. Soft and stretchy. I don't see a place in my system for the top.

I like a paper thin base layer to pull sweat off and dry extremely fast.

Mid layer like a puffy or FL source for example.

Then finally may outer coat.

They're better options for mid layers than wool, and the furnace is not a good base layer. If it gets soaked with sweat, it takes FOREVER for it to dry.
