Do you know the weights of your wool? I'm looking to get some merino, and use it for mid 30s and below, at least initially. I may branch out if I like it as much as folks like you are saying. I am seeing 3 weights 150, 250 and 400. I'm considering the 400 but have a fairly long walk into one of my stands, about .75 mile. and then I gotta climb the tree. So I'm concerned about how hot I will be when I get settled. Thanks!Well I’m in northern Maine, First time saddle hunting. Love it so far. Getting a little bit chilly. Merino wool base layers, wool socks, light wool pants, merino neck gaiter bibs and a good jacket. I’m still getting the hang of the saddle but a 2 way zipper seems to work great.. oh and a good warm hat.
Now I’m just trying to figure out if I should put my saddle under my bibs or over.
Seriously cannot express enough about wool, it wicks the sweat away, keeps you warm when it’s wet, and absorbs odor.

That helps! I've been trying to master the "choose what to wear in and carry the heavy stuff" routine for years. I tried all of the poly-pro variants, and am still wanting something better. Wool seems like the best direction to try next. I'm starting with the base layers, I'll add as I find success!Honestly, I don’t know the weights. I bought minus 33 merino mid weight union suit, the top I use is the first lite kiln, which is 250, and I have a pair of the green heavy weight wool bibs that I’ll be wearing in.
It’s a work in process, first time in I wore my outer jacket and bibs, and was sweating a lot. then I packed in my outer bibs and jacket, little bit better, put on the outer bibs to climb up, cooled down a bit and then put my jacket on. Also have swap out hats to. Lightweight going in then a heavier warmer one as my head starts to cool down.
I try to walk in a little bit slower to not sweat.
Hope it helps!
