Im a huge fan of military surplus stuff, you can generally get rock solid gear for a very reasonable price, i just picked up a pair of ECW mukluks with liners and 2 sets of wool inserts for $25. Anyways does anyone have any experience with this sweater for a layer in cold weather?

I wore this sweater in the Marine Corps and it is warm...not wind proof at all but as a base layer it would work as long as you had a thinner base layer under it and one on top of it. It is itchy as all get out as it is not Merino wool but it does keep you warm. There are better options but not at that price.

I usually wear a layer of under armour compression pants and shirt as my next to skin layer to avoid itchy clothes against my bare skin, so that wouldn't be bad. I'm mainly looking for a good middle layer to keep me warm

As long as you were dry and had something to trap your heat then this might work...it's been 35+ years since I wore mine...but I remember it being warm under my camo top.

Yea I wouldn't probably get one from this link, id shop around and find it for cheaper. Im a better bargain hunter than i am a deer hunter lmao

I just used it for the link to show what i was talking about

I used to wear the wool sweater the army issued us as a mid layer here in Michigan when it got colder but I lost it acouple years ago. Now sometimes I wear my jacket liner aka smokers jacket, both do great keeping me warm.

This price is outrageous, but these sweaters are really warm. Wore one a LOT on the boat. And trust me when I tell you it’s damned cold on a submarine, lol
