Community Stick (Whos holding my stick?)

Stick is out the door as of yesterday.
I went out and spent some quality time with one of these. I really like it. No real advantage over a regular stick other than much more packable, but no disadvantages in relation to a regular stick either. The pull up handle is a must. Heres my most recent version. A bit lighter. I was using Sterling HTC as the rope, but it did have a bit of stretch. I changed over to the 3/16 full bury amsteel. Locks down hard and the cam cleat likes the amsteel.

Ok everyone, she has arrived at my door today. Unfortunately I injured my eye climbing and practicing with my one stick on Sunday afternoon. While retrieving my rope after rappelling down, a piece of bark hit me square in the eye. Plus, oak pollen got in my eyes. It burned like hell. Needless to say, after an ER visit my eyes were flushed and I have a laceration on my right eye. No climbing for me for a couple days. Doctor's orders!!!

I am going to un-box it, check it out, take some measurements and then send her on her way to @Aaronpaul14, I believe he is next.

Thanks again Jerry. You're one awesome guy.

Package was sent to @Aaronpaul14
My review is limited due to not being able to climb with it because of my injury. But here goes. The compact size is really cool. Seems to be very solid and I would be confident in climbing with it. I am not a fan of the daisy chain, I feel it would probably be a pain in the you know what to unhook it while hanging and reaching down with one hand to grab the pull up cable and then, with the other hand trying to unhook the daisy chain.
There might be a better way, not sure.

I know @always89y. Built one with a cam cleat and shipped the other for safely, the cam cleat is the way to go. Oh, and maybe a two step aider. That's all. Great little build.

I completely agree about the daisy chain. Cam cleat is the way to go. Im actually working on a 2 step aider. Im not so sure I will be stable on it, but im basing that off of my experience on a 5 step aider.

Because of the compact size, the distance between the double step and the aider step is only about 20 or 22 inch (forgot to measure that). To me, it is all about how many feet I can travel per move. IMO, the sucky part of one Stickin, is the hang and move (I rappel down). I think with a two step aider it would give you the performance of a full length stick. Just my one cent.

"Remember, use this at your own risk! I built it in a garage using vague assumptions based on debatable data taken from inconclusive experiments with instruments of problematic accuracy by persons of questionable mentality"

I laughed so hard when I read this quote, I spit my coffee out onto the table and the way my wife looked at me was......priceless.

I’m glad you posted this. I only initially read the first sentence of the “warning!”
I would have missed the joke!

I always wear safety glasses when I scout. That’s when I seem to get the most stuff trying to stab me in the eye. Zak from THP has an ER visit last year on their YouTube channel to remove a pricked from his eyeball lol!

Mini stick showed up today. I truly appreciated the Florida Gators tape on the box JAYBO ... it’s Gator Nation here in KS too! Supposed to be cruddy weather here tomorrow so I will give it a true test this weekend and back out first of next week.

Nice buddy..if i did it i would eventually somehow end up hanging myself LOL

I did a not so quick video using on of these with a double aider this morning, after the turkey hunt. See it here:
Thanks for sharing. I am curious about your tether attachment. How is it rigged so you can just pull the small line to get it down? Thanks.

I'm using a quick link and stopper knot. Theres a thread I posted floating around on how to tie it.
I clip the small line behind the knot behind the quick link. Comes down easy...unless I forget to move the stopper knot before climbing down.

With you standing on the top step of your stick and your tether at ankle level, if the stick slipped you would fall at least 2 feet, maybe 3 or 4 feet. I would not be comfortable doing this.

Cant argue with that. Im probably a little over confident in the stick, as I am comfortable with this. I dont see there being a big difference in this vs a linemans belt that is below waist level during a climb. Especially using climbing sticks where a bit more slack is required. Certainly a risk, and acceptance of that risk is going to be based on confidence in equipment and capability.
In all actuality, I looked for a straight tree with no branches for this demo. Most places I hunt have branches at 20-25ft and I typically throw my line over those and dont have to move my tether up. In this situation and in normal practice, I would probably run a screamer.

Let me rephrase that...im comfortable ENOUGH wit this

Well finally had some decent weather and took a break from new house to do list.

I will start with negatives for me (and these really have nothing to do with the stick itself):

I’ve now learned amsteel is not something I want on my stick especially the the daisy chain and button method. Loops kept hitting in the wrong spot and I ended up just do the rope mode tie off method. I also like more of an aider than the thin amsteel. Like jaybo mentioned a double step aider (out of webbing??) would of been a little more comfortable for me.

Now for the positives which is the entire stick itself. It’s awesome!! Pic is of my muddy pro and the stick size comparison. I have a sling pack for early season and this stick would fit perfectly on that thing and never notice it was there. The top wire hand grab is definitely necessary and worked great for reaching down to pull the stick up. I think slapping a platform on top would make it next level.... and of course always89y has already done that on his other one.

The stick is so light, compact, and functional. If I go this route and replace my muddy stick I would change to a cam cleat, different aider, and slap a Scout on the top probably.

I will PM the next person and send it out tomorrow. Thanks again always89y for sharing. I’ve got measurements and a list of parts I would need. Now to find the money!
