Crossbow purchase?

I picked up a killer instinct fatal x just now.

My local shop received single digits of these today. No other killer instinct crossbows. I was concerned about getting a crossbow before season, so I am taking a chance with this model.

It shoots pretty nice, small enough (not as small/light as I want, but that will cost me 1.5 to 2k for that). If, later this season, I get a real small xbow (ravin r26 or r18), I’ll have a backup crossbow with the fatal x. Until then, it will be my one and only.

Only issue I have is the scope. I could not get the crosshairs to not be blurry with my glasses. I am going to put on my scope from my broke Parker and call it good.

I’ll get shooting in this weekend and hopefully dialed in.

The killer instinct swat x1 will be released very soon. Expected sept 1. I believe it’s ver close to the ravin r26 in size. I have one preordered and it was right around $1100.

I hope you enjoy it. You’ll have to let us know how it works for you. If it would have been at my shop, I would have picked it up instead of the fatal x.. From hearing from my shop guy, deliveries were delayed. I just did not want to chance it.

The fatal x is similar in length and smaller, width wise, than my broken parker child’s bow. A little heavier, though. And it is 100 FPS faster. I have no idea what I’ll do with 405 FPS. Maybe spend more effort pulling bolts from targets.

I may dip my toes in an expensive ravin later this season. I really want light, small and packable, with ability to shoot well to 35 yards.

I don’t need a new bow but always shopping, I like hunting with my Mathews but lack the time and discipline to shoot regularly.. I currently have a Excalibur micro 335 that my dad uses. I bought a hickory creek last year and shot my buck with it then carried my compound the rest of the season. As season approaches and I shot my bow for the first time the other day I started looking/shopping at x-bows… I like the ravin but there are a ton of horror stories out there on limbs and strings.. I made a list and narrowed it down to a few small bows

Fatal x was number one
X1 number two
Center-point wrath 430 #3

I do know that I’ve held the r26 and it felt too short so the 30” of the fatal x and 28” of the centerpoint as well as being $500 cheaper seems nice..

I do have a lwcg stand and stick combo I don’t plan on using much I could turn into the x tho.

Curious to see what u think of the x after this weekend.

Yeah, there’s been some delays. I’ve been following it on crossbow nation. It sounds like they have the crossbows and are just waiting on some components. I’ll try to remember to get back on and post a review when I get it. I have a carbon express piledriver crossbow and a compound bow so while I’m anxious to get it I won’t be without options when the season starts if my x1 is delayed a bit more.

Hope your fatal x is working good. Mine blew the left limbs on Tuesday… just sitting cocked on a hunt… call into shop to see how they are going to take care of it.. another guy from my town had same thing happen..

That sucks. Seems like Killer Instinct and Centerpoint have issues once the bow crosses the 400 FPS threshold. Shouldn't happen on a $600+ crossbow though.

Ya it’s unfortunate because I really
Do like the bow it’s a great size… I’m going to see if they will let me return and buy something else since I’ve had it less than a month. Any one have any good suggestions for something small like this?

That stinks!

I really have not spent much time with mine. I have a vision issue I am getting sorted out. Until it is sorted, I won’t be shooting / hunting.

I will keep an eye out for the broken limb.

I think what helps is using heavier arrows. People use the factory arrows that are too light. That being said, people that were using heavier arrows have also had their limbs blow up. Just the nature of using cheaper crossbows IMO. Fortunately both companies seem like they have a decent warranty department. Luckily I still plan to primarily use my compound but I have considered getting a second backup crossbow.

I have been eyeing the ravin r18. Going to get my vision sorted before buying one. It is a new model.

I like the idea about heavier arrows. I really don’t see a need for me to be shooting. 400 FPS at a deer at most 30 yards.

I had a killer instinct ripper 415 when it came out a few years ago. The first shot with the stock arrow I thought something exploded it was so loud. I said never doing that again. I went with some gold tip laser IV I had laying around. I think 560 grains or so with 100 grain tip. Shrunk groups in half and almost eliminated vibration and the excess noise. And obviously increased penetration.

I never ever heard that using heavier arrows or bolts breaking limbs on bows or crossbows. Now if you use a lighter arrow I can see that happening. Thats why IBO recommends 5 grains or more for your bow and crossbow manufacturers have recommendations on bolts. Always going havier not lighter.

I think you misunderstood my post. I was trying to say that it's better to use heavier arrows.

What I thought you said was that people that were using heavier arrows also had their limbs blowup. I can bet it wasn't because of the heavier arrows or bolts. I definitely agree heavier is better but I don't go crazy with the weight either.
