Good afternoon! I’m looking for anyone who has suggestions/opinions on which one is better.

Im going to put an order in tomorrow for my first saddle and planning to go with a CRUZR XC with the amsteel bridge. I am also considering two CRUZR pouches and their ropes. I was also planning to place an order with Tethrd soon for a HYS Strap, (Maybe a predator platform) and was considering two SYS hauler ES pouches and their ropes.

So my questions are:

A) whos pouches are better?

B) whos ropes are better? Or should I consider purchasing some Sterling OpLux from Double Steps and make my own tether/linesman.

Thanks a lot of any and all advice!

I believe Mark Dohering has both pouches and likes Tethrd better.

For pre-made ropes I would look at Latitude Outdoors: Oplux with TRC distels and tenders.

I'm also going to try snag an XC tomorrow morning. I have a Predator and HYS Strap and have ordered Oplux and TRC for making my ropes.

Better is personal preference. I don't use nor want bags on my saddle and not sure why others use bags. I tried 'em but they are not for me. Buying your own rope gives you many options but a spliced eye is a lot nicer than knots. I'm sure you'll get lot of opinions here but remember, they're all opinions, you'll have to give it a lot of thought and do what you think will work best for what you want and your budget.

Disclaimer, I haven't used either. However, IMHO

A) If youre going to buy pouches ala carte, I'd recommend either trophyline pouches, or plain jane molle dump pouches you can find on amazon.

B) you'll definitely save money purchasing your own ropes, I just ordered oplux (tether/repel line) and beal cordelette for friction hitches. If you go this route, dont be afraid to contact dano for specific questions regarding length or comparisons. Oplux is incredibly compact.

Exactly what @ricky racer said.

Thanks for all the replies! I’ve wondered about having the spliced eyes in the ropes and that being a plus. Im leaning more towards the Tethrd ropes for that reason, and because I’m so new to everything. I agree I’ll just need to figure out what works best for me. Thanks again!

I have tethrd and DanO pouches. Both work great and work as advertised. I'm a fan of fleece so slight nod to double steps.

I had also had the tethrd Lineman belt and tether. I sold them and made my own from double steps. I'm really happy with the packability of Oplux. If I could do it over I would probably order the sewn eye but knots in Oplux still have a very small profile and dont bother me whatsoever. Wild edge also sells a good package when it comes to tether and lineman belt.

BUY A PREDATOR...its seriously my favorite piece of gear. I really don't think theres a better platform on the market. Its light, packable and it works everytime. Fool proof piece of gear that I will never get rid of. Theres several platforms on the market but after using the predator for 2 seasons I dont see any reason to try something else.

Oplux and TRC knot down so small that I think splices and sewn eyes on them is mostly aesthetic and to gain a little strength. I bought both those ropes from DanO and a tender from him also and rolled my own, and I'm not tempted to upgrade to sewn or spliced anything.
